'Mail Bride' Charged With Fraud; Admits Writing to 10Q Men BATESVILLE. MADE Dr. Ames of Cincinnati to Be Assistant Professor of Surgery. IOWA CITY, C.I')--President Eugene A. Gilmore Thursday announced the appointment of Dr. Azel Ames, Jr., Cincinnati General hospital surgeon, as assistant professor of surgery in the University of Iowa college of medicine. Dr. Ames was graduated from the Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons in 1827. He was formerly affiliated with the Johns Hopkins university hospital. President Gilmore also announced the a p p o i n t m e n t of Dr. Howard H. Rowley as associate professor of chemistry, to succeed the late Prof. James M. Pcarce who died suddenly at a fooihall game last fall. Dr. Rowley is a graduate ot Northwestern university and holds an advanced degree from Frankford university, Germany. Both appointments were approved by the state board of education at a meeting in DCS Moincs Wednesday, President Gilmore said. The board also accepted a grant of $8.945 from the estate of Prof. E. W. Rockwood, former chemistry professor, and a grant of $:i,200 from the John and Mary M a r k l e foundation, for medical research. Post-Operative Action.
