About everything that the new deal has tried was advocated by Al Smith. Of course, a change has come over Al. Senator, when you stayed on the facts you made a forcible talk. But when you changed from facts to Herbert Hoover's physiognomy you should have had the gong. Senator, you spoke of Hoover's little fat hands, his chubby face, and squatty figure. No one ever accused Herb of being handsome, but Senator, what about the rest of we homely people? It was below the dignity of a majority leader in the United States senate to make those remarks. Although I am against Hoover's ideas, I am not against his looks--he can't help that. Senator, your remarks reminded me of two little girls, age six, who got into an argument and were trying to say mean things about each other. After quite a little talk between the girls there was a lull, the big moment arrived. One little girl said to the other one--you tell your mother to bring home that loaf of bread she borrowed last week. LUKE B. MILLER, U. S. A. Pound Can 29c; FOLGER'S COFFEE, 2-lb. can.
