BOX N-237-DA, TIMES Vsecas FOR LIFE -sw 4 isr x- (( cesp- i i inn ftcsimsi wheel chair, Philip David Wex- ler, 19, charged with armed rob-; bery, yesterday called for and encountered a hysterically weeping mother. The dramatic scene occurred in Superior Judge Walter S. Gates' court, where a hearing on the youth's application for probation was on the calendar.

Wexler previously had pleaded guilty to a charge of holding a couple last June 2. "Mamma, mamma, help me!" the young defendant wailed while four deputy sheriffs stood guard around the wheel chair to which they reported he had been strapped because of several disturbances he had caused in the County Jail. "What have they done to my boy?" screamed the mother, Mrs. Nettie Wexler, as she and her husband, Samuel Wexler, attempted to reach their son, who continued mumbling and staring at the floor. Officers Stop Scene But the officers stepped in between and in spite of considerable swinging of arms, some hair pulling and a lot of kicking, the parents were not permitted to throw themselves on their son.

When order was restored Dep. Dist. Atty. Edwin Myers informed the court that in a preliminary report Dr. Marcus Crahan, jail physician, had termed young Wexler "a defec tive delinquent." But the prose cutor himself expressed the opinion that Wexler was mere ly "malingering and is not really mentally afflicted.

The report submitted by the Probation Department ascribed the youth's troubles to "a domineering mother and a niggardly father," explaining that Wexler had committed robbery to get spending money "for a good time." Judge Gates postponed further hearing until Nov. 4 to permit further mental examination of the defendant. Ordinance Ordered for Right Turns The City Council yesterday instructed the City Attorney to draft an ordinance which, when finally adopted, will permit motorists to make right turns against a red signal at intersections where no signpost is erected specifically prohibiting such a turn. At present right turns are permitted only where there are signs approving such movement. The action of the Council will i be in conformity with a law passed by the last Legislature to go into effect Friday.
