Gen. Frank T. Hines resigned today as Ambassador to Panama. The White House said the resignation is effective March 1. President Truman accepted it with "regret." Hines negotiated an agreement with the Panamanian government for American troops to use bases in Panama for defense of the Panama Canal.

But the Panamanian Assembly refused unanimously to approve the agreement. The United States then announced it would pull out all its troops, The President expressed ap preciation "for the able manner in which you have represented your country" and described nines- services in as having been "characterized by a high degree of loyalty and devotion to duty." tt; Symbolic Play Premiere Set "The Coming of Christ," po etic mystery drama by John Masefield, poet laureate of England, will be given its Pacific Coast premiere on Sunday nisrht. Feb. 22. It will be held in the main sanctuary of the First Congregational Church, it was announced yesterday.

The reorganized Drama Work shop under the direction of Miss Nelle Wiley, is introducing the play in conjunction with the Cathedral Choir of 80 voices, directed by Martin. Symbolic choregraphy for a group of 75 is being rehearsed by Forrest Winston Coggan and costuming is being handled by students of the Chouinard Art Institute.
