T3. 1 947-Part I NTEREST RATE OR VETERANS TO STAY 3 PCT. There will be no rise in the present interest rate of 3 per cent on homes and farms owned by some veterans in California. This was the decision announced yesterday by the, veterans board of the State Department fo Veterans Affairs at the close of a hearing in the State Buildings Assessor John R. Quinn, former chief of the board, presented one of several arguments against the proposed increase -in rate such as was proposed by an, Assembly interim committee.

J. Marvin Russell, manager of the homes and farms purchases, unit of the veter- ans affairs backed Quinn contentions. Two Public Works Divisions Formed Two departments' yesterday were created from the Bureau of Maintenance and Sanitation by the Board of Public Works.

The bureau was headed by H. P. Cortelyou until his retirement last month. The new divisions are the Bureau of Street Maintenance and the Bureau of Sanitation. Warren A.

Former Producer in Marital Suit Nat Levine, 47, former film producer, who married his fiancee after she suffered invalidat ing injuries in a traffic accident, yesterday was sued for separate maintenance. The suit was filed by Mrs.

Rosemary Levine, 27, who says in, her complaint that she was on crutches when the ceremony was performed last Sept. 27, but has now recovered. Mrs. Levine charges cruelty and states they parted last Dec. 4, barely two months after the ceremony.

The suit was brought through Atty. S. S. Hahn. Painted Heater Flames Fatal Joseph Karlik, 39, died in Gen eral Hospital yesterday from burns which Whittier police said he received when he lighted a freshly painted gas heater in his apartment at 115 N.

Pickering Whittier. Police said Karlik ran from the place, his clothes naming. Carl Wellhbff proprietor, managed to roll Karlik in a blanket, and to extinguish the flames, but hos pital attendants said Karlik had suffered burns over most of his body.
