With Groucho and Bendix cast as two Navy seamen who inherit twin race horses and Marie Wilson playing a beautiful but dumb carhop, the film is said to be one of the season's more hilarious offerings. Taylor-Kerr Spectacle in Closing Showings Robert Taylor and Deborah Kerr head a cast of thousands in "Quo Vadis," MGM's Techni color production now in its last days at the Four Star Theater.

"Quo Vadis" is a drama of th birth of Christianity in a pagan world. Taylor plays Marcus Vinicius, Roman warrior, and Miss Kerr, Lygia, a Christian hostage. 'MIRACLE IN MILAN9 LOOMS Vittorio DeSica, producer of the poignant "Bicycle Thief," has a new comedy in "Miracle in Milan," which opens at the Four Star Theater Friday. The story revolves around Toto, who grows to maturity among a group of people who have no worldly goods, but are endowed with a great zest for living and the appreciation of the delights of nature. Yet it was his Piano Suite Opus 25, written in 1924, that motivated some of the most prominent musicians living in this area to attend last night's Evenings on the Roof concert at West Hollywood Auditorium. It was Frances Mullen, hostess for these weekly presentations, who included this work on her yearly piano recital. Labels Disconcerting The suite consists of six movements: Paeludium, Gavotte, Musette, Intermezzo, Minuet and Gigue, none of whch really conveys the customary spirit of which we are accustomed to associate with these titles, and one wonders why they were at all chosen. It was, as a matter of fact, distracting to listen with these preconceived labels in mind to music which to all intent and purpose was abstract in charac ter.

It evoked the same argumentative atrrfosphere as most of Schoenberg later music brought about by a consistent use of repeated notes which always makes this reviewer feel as though the composer were trying to defend himself to no avail before an Invisible court of appeal (his SifTYJTTTTn Marlon Brando Rated Right for 'Moby Dick; ailey, Ann Blyth Team BY EDWIV SCHALLERT John Huston believes that Marlon Brando will be the ideal actor to play the starring role In "Moby Dick," twice allotted to the late John Barrymore. He indicated this in a communication from Chantilly, France, where he is doing the writing on "Moulin Rouge" with Anthony Veiller. Whether Huston and Warner which owns the rights to the story by Herman Melville, will get together is conjectural, but there was just the suggestion from Huston of this possibility. The director's schedule is heavy jiow, because he expects to follow "Moulin Rouge" with "Beat the Devil," starring Humphrey Bogart, in November and then will return to MGM for a commitment that he has there. If that portion of the deal doesn't work out he will be busy with "Miss Hargreaves," taken from the British novel by Frank Baker, and to star Katharine Veiller and he are to work on that script.

Described as a story of adult love, "Something to Live For" is said to offer a contrast to Stevens' previous film success, "A Place in the Sun," which probed the emotional conflict of young love. The Paramount Hollywood currently offers "Detective Story," while the Downtown screens "Hong Kong" and "Flaming Feather." Fhon It. 4111 PhonE. 4111 Phon PililiiMiJ 7fJ uninnr PA.

Iwtwi' il muTnifrrc STARTS FRIDAY Miss Mullen played the difficult music competently and one felt assured that one had heard all the notes that were there. This was not necessarily true for Ravel's Gaspard de la Nuit with which she opened the program but again applied to the very few notes of which the little Haydn Sonata in minor consisted that formed the link between the Ravel and the Schoen berg. The closing was the Wald stein Sonata by Beethoven. W.

Peter Land Hayes is developing an idea for a life story of his mother, Grace Hayes, formerly famous in the. entertainment world and latterly concerned with the position with 12 tones. Schoen- bergs music up to that point did not strictly follow any theoretical stratagem. This change, however, is not an obvious one and even the most Intelligent listener would be hard put distinguish between works written before and after.

The 12-tone row which formed the backbone of the Suite performed last night was consistently employed throughout all the movements. Not that we gained this insight from merely listening to the music but we studied the score beforehand, as all good little music critics should do. Unorganized Rhythm Perhaps due to this consistent employment of the same row there was not that definite contrast between the various movements which, according to the titles, they should have. There was furthermore a lack of rhythmic variety, or rather an overabundance of unorganized rhythm which resulted In rhythmic, monotony. The picture would be aimed uniquely at Mary Healy for starring and Peter would enterthe latter portion of the film as her son. Their TV show, "Star of the Family," is built around their personal lives, so the carry-through to the cinema is logical. Incidentally, Miss Hayes is spending time now with their children in New York, having given up her night club in Las Vegas.

NOVEL OF LITTLE OLD NEW YORK ON AGENDA "Young Ames," novel by Walter D. Edmunds, is now on the active schedule at Columbia. It was originally, published some 10 years ago in a national weekly then as a book. It is about little old New York of 1833 and concerns the development of the export business on its documentary side. Columbia had an option on this subject for some time and apparently has just exercised it.

The picture will be the first for Writer Oscar Saul as a producer, while Zachary Gold is writing the Gottfried Reinhardt, who produced "The Jealous Lovers," is to seek another story suitable to star Moira Shearer when she is able to return to pictures probably late in the year. Rick Vallin has been signed by Hugo Haas to play a featured dancer and principal heavy in "Strange Fascination," which will start Wednesday. HILDEGARDE NEFP TO NARRATE Hildegarde Neff has just learned that she can take her pick of pictures for Producer Erich Pommer in Europe, who has taken up an option on this actress.
