(JP) Hoi-lywood swept a Memorial Day Coast League baseball double-header today, defeating Oakland, 7 to 2, in the opener and 1 to 0 in the eighth and extra inning of the shortened nightcap.

The Stars staged a seven-run second-inning killing at the expense of three Acorn pitchers in the opening game. In the second game Tod Davis opened the eighth with a double. He was sacrificed to third by Pitcher John Intlekofer and scored on Brooks Holder's fly to right field. Timen photo br Al Humphrey! against Seals at Wrigley Field. Bruce Ogrodowski nipped him.

Fred (Tex) Winter of South Gate won a basketball letter at Marquette Used to star at Huntington Park and Comp-ton Jaysee and later played basketball and hurdled and vaulted at Oregon Ted Carpenter says Tex was a mighty sweet, all-around athlete He's a Navy trainee. One of the most improved skaters with the Ice-Capades is 17-year-old Marilyn Quinn Her mother was on the Broadway stage and her brother won wrestling honors at Colgate before joining the Army Air Corps Marilyn was all set to enter Syracuse when signed by. John Harris a year ago. PUGILISTIC CHITCHAT Harry Teaney, who fights John Thomas at the Olympic Tuesday night, has a great booster in Charley Johnston, of James J. Teaney scored an outstanding triumph a few weeks ago when he trimmed Lulu Costantino, ly spun a no-hit, no-run masterpiece at the expense of the O'Doulers, still had their number aplenty in the opener.

The nightcap, though, developed into an 11-inning nipper-and-tucker in which both sides pounded at the door to the run department almost constantly to keep the customers and each other in a dither. It was, unquestionably, the most exciting scuffle of the local season, perhaps of many seasons. And when a pinch single by fortyish Johnny Moore finally broke up the exercises, the Seraphs celebrated noisily, for it was their first overtime victory of the campaign. Race Tightens The twin wins didn't improve the Angels' Pacific Coast League ranking any, leaving them in sixth place, but they're stepping on a lot of guys' heels now in the closely bunched race. The Seals came to town with the best hitting mark in the loop but the Angels outsticked 'em in both tussles, even though Eddie Fcrnandes and Rip Russell both were on the shelf with broken fingers.

Rip, however, took a pinch-hit turn in the day's final frame and contributed a game-tying bingle although he had trouble holding his bat. Cornelias had a potenial three-hit shutout until the ninth stanza of the first game, when a double by Ben Guintini and a single by Gussie Suhr gave the Seals their first run in 22 innings. Los Angeles got only one run, and that unearned, off Cowboy Ray Harrell through the first four innings, but shelled him into seclusion with a five-hit assault in the fifth that produced three runs and brought Rudy Parsons loping in from the bullpen. Sfals Take Lead San Francisco got off to a 3-0 lead in the first inning of the afterpiece without the benefit either of clergy or base hits. Erratic Boyd Tepler walked four men and a fly coupled with an error accounted for two more tallies before Red Adams could get the side out.

The Angels tied it up by nudging Will "erle for one run in the fourth and two more in the fifth and then followed a hectic succession of spine-tingling threats, all of which were thwarted until the lethal 11th. The Seals tallied once in their half off Don Osborn, who had taken er in the sixth, on singles by Suhr and Del Young and Pappy Joe Sprinz's infield out. Henry collapsed up in Sacramento the other night after a heart attack, and right now hundreds of ballplayers and fans are pulling for his speedy recovery. Those of you who follow the game will better recognize Fanning when I remind you that he's the one-armed ter. Henry's long on courage as his recent stint in San Diego proves.

Down there he worked behind the plate in every game of the series Generally umpires switch off, one taking the bases one game and then going behind the dish for the next. But Henry was bothered by a very bad knee, and rather than give up, said he'd handle the indicator behind the plate. He'd warned, too, that excessive exercise might be bad for him but Fanning stuck to his post. Here's hoping he'll be back in harness right soon.
