Order to Seize Ward's Offices Again Reported BY LOUIS 8TARK lSw York Tim en Corrrspondr nt WASHINGTON, Dec. 27. President Roosevelt has directed the War Department to take ever the headquarters of Montgomery Ward Co. In Chicago and probably eight plants of the retail and mail order house for refusing to obey directives of the National War Labor Board, it was learned today. The seizure, which Is Imminent, follows a threat by C.I.O.

unions to order a general strike of war workers in Detroit unless the government acted quickly to support the W.L.B. The War Department rather than the Department of Commerce will run the Ward establishments, It was learned. The White House was represented as having been dissatisfied with the way li which the Department of Commerce handled the nelzure of the company's central offices In Chicago last spring. Prrparrd to Art The government anticipates attempts by th company to obtain injunctions restraining It from acting, and counter moves to forestall such action have been prepared. The reported plan Is to prevent the various store managements from refusing to obey the orders of the government under penalty of contempt of court.

The initial etep after seizure would be to go Into the Federal courts for a sweeping Injunction restraining the company, its officials and supervisory staffs from interfering with the government. Part of the government's case for seizure will be the "tinder box" theory, namely, that refusal to abide by the order In a teeming war center like Detroit may affect warworkers in adjacent plants. Union Voice Warning This approach was apparently home out today by the warnings brought here from Detroit by a committee of the Greater Detroit Industrial Union Council, which said the situation. was fast running out of control, and that warworkers were restive because of the lag in government enforcements its orders against four Detroit stores of Montgomery Ward where the C.I.O. has called strikes.

They expressed fear lest the situation develop into a general strike o( C.I.O. workers In Detroit. Battles are kept remote except as a momentary climax. Suspense of the more dramatic character grows out of the loss of one plane during training. The emotional fofce of the film is exceptional and it should be a top favorite.

Ticturesque, indeed, are the scenes in the streets of the air base. They even evoked a ripple of applause. The montage of sound during the training is re markable in its crescendo and impact. Famous Spots Reproduced for Together Again For key scenes in "Together Again," costarring Irene Dunne, Charles Boyer and Charles Co- burn at Hillstreet and Pantages theaters, Columbia re-created Washington Square, Macdougal Alley and several of Greenwich villages noted Bohemian night spots. The picture offers a cinematic tour of the Monmartre of America, and the sets are replicas of many landmarks-of New York's art center.

(U.R) Damage estimated In thousands of dollars was done at Montgomery Ward Dearborn store today in a 15-minute meleo in which demonstrators smashed fixtures, splattered perfume and trampled other merchandise. A charge by Store Manager Roland Estabrook that union goons were responsible for the damage was countered by Roy Scoggins, Michigan strike director, who said the violence resulted when "company imported strikebreakers attempted to interfere with our peaceful picketing." Two alleged "demonstration" ringleaders were arrested. Police said neither had been a Ward employee.

Also COMPLEXION PEEL Men mn4 Wgmiii Omm Ivanlna J. T. GEORGE, M.D. VA. 7385 BY EDWIX SCHALLERT A perfect duplication of the stage productio sufch is "Winged Victory" in its film 'er-sion.

It thus spells a splendid experience for those who did not have the good fortune to witness the footlight presentation. Its interest should be far-reaching on that account, and those who did view the earlier rendition will renew the enjoyment through the cinema. It is better in one department the work of the women I'd say. Otherwise you might be recapitulating just the events that made the attraction such a fine one in the theater not long ago. Naturally there are expanded horizons of action, made possible by outdoor settings.

These imbue the film with an anticipated bigness it did not possess in its stage settings. Benefit Show Twentieth Century-Fox premiered "Winged Victory" for the benefit of the Army Air Forces last night at Grauman's Chinese and all the usual appurtenances added to the opening. The street crowd uas large and many of the stars of the studio were present. The inaugural presentation had the requisite glamour. One now verifies the opinion expressed regarding the stage show, namely that some of its actors should have lustrous careers in pictures when they leave the service.

Certainly the film evidences the splendid talents, of Cpl. Don Taylor, Sgt. Mark Daniels, Sgt. Edmond O'Brien and numerous others. There is fine moving playing by such young women as Jeanne Crain, Jane Ball, Jo-Carroll Den-nison, as well as Judy Holliday.

Miss Crain's pathetic reaction in the episode of farewell will cause many tears. There is much tenderness to the work of Miss Ball as the wife who is bereaved. Miss Dennison also has a posi tive appeal. O'Brien Score O'Brien is the lusty, vigorous influence in the plot even as in the stage version. His work is practically identical in character, and by virtue of this production he becomes one of the most col orful of screen personalities.

Were he able immediately to pursue the victory he might carry it far indeed. mm IUH Ma MMM Jt IAITB Ma MMM ALTO PL-J3114 f.ft.Wet'a. Pr. PV. TIM Wa Meat Aeaia) National bare Caere ARROYO 3236 N.
