The disastrous effect that the thumbs-down attitude of audiences exerted several months ago, is still too fresh in the memory to be ignored.

After a year of straight comedy and drama, however, audiences as well as producers have oome to the realization that music and dancing have a definite place to fill in the realm of the talking picture. They have also realized that, while this is true, musicals should not be lifted directly from the stage and placed upon the screen, that the medium is something entirely different and should be treated as such. And so comes a new era for the musical pciture an era which is being entered upon with fear and trembling on the part of producers, enthusiasm on the part of songwriters, and thankfulness on the part of the dancers. While many of these films have been purchased direct from the stage, they will be worked over in entirety and adapted expressly for screen presentation.
