The Chamber of Commerce Is to make-a strong campaign for securing a government assay office In this city. Communications have been sent to the representatives In Congress, and all public-spirited citizens will be enlisted In the cause. At yesterday's directorate meeting the following resolution in substance was adopted: "Whereas, the Committee on Mining on March 11. 1908, reported to this Chamber, reasons and necessity for the establishment of a United States assay office at Los Angeles, and whereas, Senator Frank P. Flint, at the last session of Congress, Introduced Senate bill.

No. 5727, providing for the establishment of such office, which was referred to the Committee on Finance; therefore be it "Resolved, That the Chamber of Commerce hereby reaffirms Its former action In the adoption of said report, and urges the passage of the bill at the present session of Congress; that four Senators and Representatives are requested to lend their efforts to the establishment of such an assay office and that our commercial bodies, banks, and private Individuals are requested to do all In their power to accomplish this result." The Merchants' and Manufacturers' Association has recently Indorsed the establishment of the office, and Secretary Zeehandelaar has taken up the subject with Senator Flint and others having Influence at Washington. SIERRA MADRE, SIERRA MADRE. Dec 8. For a time it looked as though the ball team of the city would not be permitted to play on Sundays.

When it was discovered thct this would drive the youths from here to Arcadia, and that for several Sundays they started to make their headquarters in that section, a compromise was effected. The ball team was given back the diamond and the games are indulged in outside of church hours. The Trustees, with one exception, favor the national game on Sunday, and very little opposition has been met with. There is a report that an effort will be made to have the regular 5:30 p.m. car abandoned, and the 5:05 o'clock car made a through car to some point beyond the city limits.

Its leaving time to be changed to 5:15 or 6:20 o'clock. During the racing season this car rarely leaves on schedule and com-mutors are inconvenienced by the long waits and the lack of seating capacity. VENICE. VENICE. Dec.
