The police, who have been working the past week on the theory that the robberies and murder of last Katar3.i. night were the work of a "drug fiend," are greatly exercised and fear that Ivj may commit another murder beforj morning. All the drug stores east of Fillmore street and the Hammam bath establishment in which he killed Schneider last Saturday night, are being guarded by police and detectives for fear that he may appear at one of Tn efforts Of the department are concentrated upon the capture of the robber and murderer. (Nicaragua) Dec. 11 A staff correspondent of the Asso ciated Press, who recently arrived here, has canvassed the situation, an finds It less hopeful for the insurgents than had been believed. Gen.

Estrada is greatly disturbed. and has appealed to United States Consul Moffat for bluejackets from ths. cruiser Deg Moines to protect Amerl cans. It la known, however, that what he really wishes la intervention by the United States to save the Insurgents' cause. i While Gen.

Vasques, at the head of a handful of loyal troops, was parley Ing with Estrada's envoys before Rama, it is said the main army of Ze-laya was marching on Blueflelds. A disquieting report comes from Grey town, which Is said to contain a government force sufficient to rout the besieging troops under Ger. Chamorro whenever the word Is eiven. It Jsibb that the provisionals are unduly aiarmea, just as they appear to have been overconfident; but the situation is set forth as it is viewed from the insurgents' standpoint. REALIZATION UNPLEASANT.

There has been a sudden and unpleasant realization here of government strength and Insurgent weakness President Zelaya has outwitted Gen. Estrada, and the latter's chief hope is ju American intervention, it turns out that the conference sought by Gen. Vasques, of the government troops, near Rama, which the Insur gents had interpreted as a sign of yielding on tne part of Zelaya's troops, was a blind intended to obtain a delay of the expected battle until the loyal array naa gainea a aecidea advantage of position. It is also learned that when Zelaya had kept a scattered force before Rama, his real army of uuv men waa flurrying by forced marches toward Blueflelds. The report that a descent upon this city from Rama, was possible only by river ia now known to be untrue.

Gen. Estrada endeavored to conceal his alarm by Informing the correspondents at the front that all wa tranquil, with the prospect that Gen. Vas-quez and Maj. Eva would surrender. Ten minutes after he had talked with the reporters, the insurgent leader had his chief aide, Adolpho Diaz, on sthe was wiling him that the Americans should send marines ashore, as Vasques apparently had outflanked him.

Estrada also expressed the opirifon that a request should be made of the United States government for protection of Americans in. Blueflelds, COULD CONTROL SITUATION. Dlas rushed to United States Consul Moffat with the Intelligence and the Consul assured him that Commander Shipley's marines would be able to control the situation here. It was recalled today that MaJ. Eva, one of the government envoys at yesterday's conference, was the man who surveyed the telegraph lino aero the country and that-none know better the hidden ways through the forests, swamps and lillta.

11. Disquieting news received from Nicaragua at the State Department today that there Is danger of an attack by President Zelaya's being made on Blueflelds, where there are 150 Americans resulted in. orders being sent by wireless telegraph to the cruiser Tacoma to proceed under full steam to Blueflelds, there to Join the cruiser Des Moines and await further orders. The Prairie, now at Philadelphia, has been ordered to take on board -700 marines under command of Col. Bid-die, and steam as.

soon as possible to Colon, The Importance of these orders is minimized at the State Department, where it is said the Tacoma has. been instructed to look out for American interests at Blueflelds, While the destination of 'the Prairie Is given as Colon, it Is equipped with wireless apparatus and the vessol's destination could be changed any mo ment. The news that Zelaya probably would avoid an engagement at Rama, and, making a detour, would strike Blueflelds, the headquarters of the revolutionary army and provisional government was received here with some apprehension, and almost Immediately a conference was held at the office of the Secretary of the Navy, at which were present Secretary Meyer, Assistant Secretary Wlnthrop, Rear-Admiral Wright, and Assistant Secretary of State Wilson. Navy officlalstoday, while admitting that the marines, which. are expected to land from the Dixie at Colon today, would be hurried across the Isthmus of Panama, and put on board the Buffalo, stated the vessel had received no orders to sail Corinto; However, It is given out that the taking aboard of "25 marines almost cer-; tainly means an Immediate bailing, as otherwise the marines would, have been kept on shore until needed. Questioned today as to the truth of the several statements made by Pres.

Ident Zelaya today In an Interview, government officials said the Interview was full of errors. Two conspicuous examples were pointed out. One was that Zelaya disclaimed the execution of Cannon and Groce was by his order, of which the State department has absolute proof to the contrary. Another supposed false statement was that Zeinya had sent a communication to the United 'Plates government expressing his willingness to allow the t'rslted States to name a commission to Investigate all the matters in connection with the recent disturbances to which this government took exception, and would abide lit the results of th'ir investigations, NoYuch comma night, got in a cab and vanished.
