Ktmitfy it Irvington SpikeDuel Saturday BERKELEY The California track and field team will host Oregon State Saturday in the Bears' first track meet in Edwards Stadium in five weeks. Field events start at 1:15 p.m. and running events at 2 p.m. in this Pacific Eight dual meet which will have the visitors the big favorite.

Oregon State is coming off successive victories over TJCLA and Washington State. The Bears, 6-2 on the dual meet season, are coming off a 99-54 win over Washington on a wet, chilling, windy, cold, day in Seattle that saw few outstanding marks achieved. a Beaver strength brought them impressive victories over strong PAC-8 opponents and it is this balance which favors an OSU victory. The highlight of the meet should be the high jump where Bear Clarence Johnson will face a trio of 7-foot jumping opponents including the Olympic champion Dick Fosbury. The unique jumping Fosbury is far from the form which earned him a 7-4y4gold medal in Mexico City, but he does have a seven foot jump to his credit thus far this year.

His teammates Steve Kelly(70 this year) and Redwood City's John Radetich (7-0 last year) will give Cal's record holder a stiff battle "Tree," twice over 7-feet this eason, won in this dual meet last year in Corvallis and set a meet record at With a lead in the final match, he double faulted and then proceeded to go behind 8-7, but won the match 10-8. This was the deciding match as the score was tied 3-3 but Palumbo's victory pushed the Knight into the victory column to give them a 4-2 mark while Irvington is now 5-1. The Knights won both doubles lay as Tony Lopez and Rick Marshall teamed to defeat Steve Brumfield and Ken Karn 6-2, 6-3. Sam Lovato and Roy Johnson then downed Kerry Crites and Lee Moore 6-4 and 6-1. The Knights fourth point came when Marlin Wallace defeated Tim Johnson 6-3 and 9-7.

Other action saw Mission San Jose dump James Logan 5-2 behind the fine play Dennis Me- Enery and Bob Chase who opened with singles victories. Washington won it's fourth match of league play by clipping John F. Kennedy 4-3 as Joe Myers, Gary Hallock, and Thad Peterson aU won their singles olay in leading the Huskies. WAY TO GO Continued From Page IS Ingram has been labeled by the writers as a coach who has an outstanding knowledge of the game, a devotion to doing a good job and as a gentlman the basis of his efforts thus far. It is this type of coach and this type of job that 'enables the MVAL to grow in stature throughout the Area. Such a complete knowledge as Ingram was to bring to the selections this year takes hundreds of hours of work. A more than deserved word of praise for doing an outstanding job brought a modest "thank you, -it was a labor of love" from Ingram. Moreover, his tone and manner clearly communicated that it was his pleasure.

The Alameda County-Contra Costa County football game is a true area effort to provide youth with worthwhile event with two community charities as the beneficiaries. After the selection committee meeting, it is the unanimous opinion of sportswriters from throughout the county that a better coach than Washington's In' gram could not possibly have been picked for the classic. 4:30.6. Renegades Spiked By Monterey MONTEREY Ohlone College's 12-man track team won only two events and dropped a 100-36 Coast Conference track meet to Monterey Peninsula here yesterday afternoon. Dennis Chittel took a first place in Hie 440 tard run wittt 51.5, and Doug White soared 11 feet to grab a first place in the pole vault for the Renegades' only two victories. Mike Jorge helped Ohlone to its 36 point total with second place in both the 100 and 220- yard clashes, and while Monterey's Johnson took first in both the 880 and mile, Oscar Rodriquez also carried a grueling double for Ohlone with second places in both the mile and two mile.
