"I can't blush anymore," reported the fright-wig comedienne Thursday. "The blood wont go that high." The surgeon went for an overhaul instead of a minor repair job. He lifted her face, changed her nose and straightened her teeth.

"I did it to protect the public," she confided deadpan. "You get used to seeing yourself in the mirror. I saw myself on the It was horrible." Eleven incisions and three and one-half hours of scalpel and stitching, Miss Diller said, changed her entire outlook. "It makes me feel younger. I was beginning to feel creaky." She didn't look creaky during an interview that turned into a running commercial for cosmetic surgery.

She kept right on being Phyllis Diller in a flowing, flowered shift, huge geometric rings, beads and false eyelashes nearly an inch long. There will be no barking from the pack, no jumping over fences, no kill at the finish. This will be a quiet chase seven hot air balloons playing hounds, one hot air balloon playing fox. It's Friday's International Hot Air Balloon Race at Ohio State Fair, an annual curiosity since 1968.

Some of the hounds will be unusual, even for balloons. There's the Omego balloon to be flown by Julian R. P. Nott, the British national champion, and his British mate, Robin Griffith. It's the world's largest balloon.

Nott is the balloonist who set a new absolute hot air altitude record of 36,200 feet last month at Hereford, England. Then there's the Piccard Gypsy balloon to be flown by Bruce Comstock of Ann Arbor, the U.S. national champion. The balloon is constructed of a piece of material from every balloon ever made by Au-guste Piccard. All the other pilots are known nationally: Dr.

William Grabb of Ann Arbor, winner in 1970 at the fair who flew over the Alps last winter and finished seventh in the nationals; Deke Sonnich-sen of Menlo Park, Dennis Floden of Flint, winner of the 1971 nationals; Tom Oerman of Muscatine, Iowa, second in the 1971 nationals, and Reber Chambers of States-ville, N.C., third in the 1971 nationals. Tracey Barnes, a record-holder in gas and hot air balloons, will pilot the fox balloon. He lifts off at noon, with the hounds following into the air. The chase lasts for 60 minutes. Winner will be the balloon which lands closest to the lead balloon.

Probable distance to be covered is estimated at 20 miles. The winning aerial hounds share a $10,000 purse. "AN EPIC!" OPEN 7:00 P.M.
