Austin American-Statesman B5 Saturday, May 13, 1978 i Austin growth market attracts KVUE-TV buyers The Evening News Association owns several broadcasting stations, including WWJ-AM and FM radio in Detroit; WWJ-TV in Detroit; KTVY-TV in Oklahoma City; ALA-TV in Mobile, Ala. and KOLD-TV in Tucson, Ariz. The company also publishes the Detroit Evening News and the Desert Sun newspaper in Palm Springs, Calif. The Evening News Association and the Washington Post recently applied for FCC permission to swap ownership of their respective hometown television stations, WWJ-TV in Detroit and WTOP-TV in the Washington area. Foster, one of the station's owners and president of the Channel 24 Corp.

The sale, combined with the sale of KTVV-TV to Lin Broadcasting Corp. of New York three weeks ago, leaves Austin with no locally owned commercial station. Neither Foster nor Peter Clark, president of the Evening News Association, would disclose the sale price of the station, but other sources estimated it at just more than $14 million. Federal Communications Commission approval of the sale is expected to take between six and nine months, Condra said. By DAVID FRINK American-Statesman Staff The attractiveness of Austin's "built-in, Sunbelt growth market" was the primary reason for the sale of KVUE-TV by its local owners to the Evening News Association of Detrqit, station manager Jerry Condra said Friday.

"Austin is a very attractive market because it's one of the fastest growing areas in the country," he said. The sale of KVUE-TV was confirmed by Tolbert AP Heading to sea Charmiane Walter of Berkeley, takes the helm of the 470-foot Texas Clipper, training ship for Texas University's marine academy at Galveston. Instead, it had been painted over so no one noticed that it was still in place. The tank and solar collector are part of a water-heating unit at the store. The Krispy Kreme Doughnut scheduled to open its first Austin location next week, received a setback Friday when the water tank under its unique solar collector blew a plug, spewing 2,200 gallons of water into the retail sales outlet.
