Wallace Ala, Thomas Ala, and Herman Ala were Leavenworth business visitors Monday, R. S. Connelly shipped a car of, horses and mules to Wichita Monday. Joe Adams and family cair Saturday and spent the week end with his parents, Mr. and Mrs.

James Adams. Capt. Abel, the Tire protector inventor came over from the city Saturday to visit his daughter. Mra. Chas.

Mary Maier aud Dana Ready weat to Kansas City, Kan, to attend the Missouri River Baptist Association. Mr. 1 and Mra. A. Murray, who were suddenly called away by the death of a relative, have tarned after an extended to their daughter and other relatives.

Miss Agaes Andermatt left Mouday morning for Kansas City, where she will visit with relatives and take np the study of millinery. She will to joined by her mother later. The Bread Club, chaperoned by Mrs. A Laffoon, took little jaunt to the woods Saturday afternoon, They enjoyed wiener roast and all reported as having spent a most delightfal afternoon. Mr.

and Mrs. Robert Blodgett and children, accompanied by Mrs. Charles Meyer, motored to Atkinson Saturday on a little shopping tour. They contemplated taking in the circus, bat were "rained out." Mra. Ed Murray and interesting little son, Ralph, who have been visiting relatives and friends in Easton, returned to their home ia Kansas City, Mo, Monday.

Mra. Murray is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. B. M.

Potter, and is remembered dere as Miss Opal. Her busbard holds a responsible posision in the Kansas City postoffice. Elder Turner, of the Mormon ohurch, delivered an entertaining lecture at St. Lawrence Hall to a large crowd Friday night. He also reproduced 160 views of the Far West, which proved very interesting to those present.

Brigham Young, the head and brains of the Mormon church, was the greatest colonizer the world has ever known. Mrs. Chester Meredith, little lady Lucille, and her baby sister, Velma, after a pleasant visit with Mr. and Mrs M. Potter and family, returned to Garrison, Saturday.

Mr Me edith, formerly section foreman, nOw has a traveling position with the railroad company, and he and his family will not be permaneatly located for some time, The subject of this sketch, Mr. George T. Phillips, was barn in Richmond, Ray county, in the good old state of Missouri, April the 7th. 1846, and died in Easton, the little city he helped to boost for the past half century. He was attracted to the state of Kansas by the wonderful opportunities presented to young men, and settled in this section in 1865, remaining here until his death which occurred Tuesday, September 13th, 1921, with the exception of 4 years spent in Colorado.

He farmed for awhile, but later engaged in the mercantile business with his son, Robert 8. Phillips, and they surcessfully conducted this store in Easton for about 10 years in the ouilding now eccupied by the Telephone Exchange. The sign can still be seen. Mr. Phillips was the first mayor Easton bad and he gave the little town a successful aud progressive administration during his 6 years' reign as chief lesecutive.

He died surrounded by loved ones and many life-long friends. He joined the Methodist church in the days of his youth and lived a Christian life throughout all these years. He was at all times ready and willing to tender his services and means to those in distress. He took a deep interest in church work 300 was always ready to assist his pastor in, his efforts for the cause Christ. He leaves to mourn his departure one sop, R.

Frances Smith, of Colorado. The funeral services were conducted at the Methodist church by Rev. Stonger, Wednesday, Sept. 14th, and his remains inSerred in Easton cemetery.
