Their places were filled by Brewer and Robinson. Lea was made Foreman, Butler, Bailiff. Judge Cassidy's charge to the Grand Jury consumed about one hour and was, as usual, impressive and forcible, and in substance about as follows: To discard all personal feeling for or against any man, discharge their duty fearlessly and conscientiously, no matter whether they thought a law good or bad to strictly investigate all violations. He charged them particularly against disturbers of public worship, illegal retailing and gambling. Advised them not to investigate local offenses, such as neighborhood quarrels, where same had been amicably adjusted, giving as a reason, that although the law had been technically violated, an indictment trial would re-open the old sore and make matters worse than before.

Told them, that part of their duty was a strict investigation of the county books and all Justice of the Peace dockets, He also advised them to refer all petty offenses and minor misdemeanors back to the Justices of the Peace of their respective districts, and stated that he and the District Attorney would give them all the information they desired at any time. The petty juries were then sworn in, several being excused by reason of sickness, their places filled, and court took a recess for dinner.
