Refugee In TV War Series * - ** * *. * ^ Blonde, With Unhappy Memories, Glad It's A Comedy EBSKDOC JOHXSON P HOLLYWOOD -- Blonde Cynthia Lynn, who likes enough like Kim Novak to be her twin, has an understandable distaste for war backgrounded televi s i o n shows. "I start sobbinc. I have to leave the room," she says. It is a psychological thing for Cynthia, who was born in Latvia during World War n with the name of Zinta. Valda Ziemelis. As a child of 3 she and her mother and grandmother had to flee from Riga ahead of the approaching Russian army. They proaching Russian army. They were attacked on the road by Russian planes and they endured near-starvation for weeks at a time. They found a haven of sorts in Wiesbaden, Germany, where they survived Allied air raids a n d where they eventually had to live in a bomb - shattered 'house, scrounging for scraps of food and fuel, until the arrival of American troops. A new series, ironically with a World War H background, will introduce Cynthia Lynn as the only feminine member of its cast. -.. Happily for Cynthia it is a comedy, Hogan's Heroes, starring Bob Crane as leader of a group of POWs in a German camp. Cynthia plays Helga, secretary to the camp's commandant. She is there to help American, British and French prisoners of war outwit the commandant in what the show's producer hopes will be "uproarious comedy format there are occasional But even with the show's com- 3dy format there are occasional air raids and the sound of distant cannon. "I've learned not to cry," says Cynthia, "but I still get goose pimples. I hope they won't show on the screen." I got it back and now all my friends are doing double takes and asking me, "What's with the ACCENT?" The accent, of course, cinched the role of the German secretary for Cynthia Lynn. "But," s h e laughs, "the man in the casting office still said to me: " 'Miss Lynn, lift your skirt a little. We must be sure you have pretty legs. The role has an accent but the accent is also on the legs.' " Cynthia didn't have to worry about the accent on the legs. As they say in Hollywood, her legs are something else.
