It begins MOVIE REVIEW with an account of origins, then having knocked that off, awkwardly shifts gears and lurches Into the story proper.

"Superman" finessed this awkwardness on the basis of charm; poor "Howard." like "Superglrl." "The Lone Ranger' "Flash Gordon" and all the other misbegotten attempts before It. never does and consequently comes on like a double feature. It's two movies for the price of one, neither of them very good. We start with Howard, Just another average drake on the planet of the ducks. He comes home to his apartment, turns on the tube, opens a can of beer and opens the latest Playboy.

All right, so everyone Is a duck, the Playmate of the Month Is a nude duck, that's funny for maybe seven seconds and the sequence lasts for maybe seven minutes. Then suddenly Howard Is mysteriously sucked through space and deposited on the planet of the hairless apes.
