Barranco dies; was barber for 60 years -y i i "Jh Ill I MTU HI A In 1973. the state Senate honored him In a resolution celebrating his 5t years as a barber and cited many sports, university and political figures among his customers. Active in 3rd Councllmanic District Democratic politics, he served as a substitute magistrate from 1959 until 1961. From 1963 until 1980.

he was a member of the State Board of Barber Examiners. He is survived by his wife, the former Anna M. Prestl; two sons, Frank S. Barranco of Baltimore and Salvatore T. Barranco of Towson; two brothers.

Dr. Salvatore H. Barranco of Towson and Charles Barranco of Baltimore, and one A Mass of Christian burial for Santi B. Barranco, who was a barber for more than 60 years, will be offered at 10 a.m. today at St.

Marys Roman Catholic Church. 5500 York Road in Govans. Mr. Barranco. who was 80 and lived in the 4600 block of York Road over his barbershop, died Wednesday at the Dulaney Towson Nursing Center after an illness of a month.

A native of Baltimore, he started working in his father's South Baltimore barbershop in 1923, then started his own shop at York Road and Cold Spring Lane In 1 93 1 From 1963 until 1973, he also operated a barbershop on the Home-wood campus of the Johns Hopkins University. Shoda. a 28-year-old accountant and lawyer, will be at 10 a.m. today at the First Lutheran Church, 3604 Chatham Road In Elllcott City. Mr. Shoda.

who lived In the 10100 block of Maplewood Drive in Elllcott City, died of cancer early Thursday at the Johns Hopkins University. For about two years, he was associated with the law firm of Semmes, Bowen and bemmes, doing doui legal and accounting work. Born in Frederick and raised in Elllcott City, he was a 1974 graduate of Mount Hebron High School and earned an accounting degree from the University of Virginia in 1 978. He became a certified public accountant and worked for the firm of Coopers and Lybrand, until he switched to the law firm and entered law school. This year, he was graduated from the University of Maryland Law School and passed the bar examination.

He was fond of sports, playing basketball, softball and football with friends. Mr. Shoda is survived by his parents, Alton A. and Delores R. Shoda of Elllcott City, and a sister, Laura A.

Mr. Jackson, a resident of West Baltimore, was a member of the Baptist Ministers Conference and the Pastors Evening Conference. He was also a member of the Black Businessmen's Organization In Turner Station. He was one of the organizers of the former Interdenominational School of Religion. He Is survived by his wife, the former Joyce Lawrence; two sons, George Jackson Jr.

of Baltimore, and Lowell Crawford of Richmond, three daughters, Cynthia Hill, Lakia Jackson and Catherine Jackson, all of Baltimore; a sister, Delia Gaetan of Massachusetts, and three grandchildren. Dr. William C. Duffy Retired obstetrician A Mass of Christian burial will be offered for Dr. William Carroll Duffy, a Ruxton resident and Baltimore obstetrician-gynecologist, at 10 a.m.

today at the Church of the Immaculate Conception, 200 Ware Ave. In Towson. Dr. Duffy died Thursday at Mercy Hospital after a long illness. He was 71.

Born In Baltimore, he grew up In Waverly. He attended Loyola High School and college, and received his Doctor of Medicine degree from the University of Maryland in 1940. He was a resident at Mercy Hospital until 1943. Certified by the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology in 1950. Dr.

Duffy was a founding member of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists. He had a private practice from 1943 to 1967 and delivered well over 5,000 babies during that time. From 1967 until 1983. Dr. Duffy worked for the Veterans Administration as a general practitioner.

He retired In 1983. Dr. Duffy Is survived by his wife, the former Mary Metzbower; four daughters, Frances Duffy, Mary T. Duffy, Mary Whlttaker and Kathleen M. Lavin, all of Baltimore; four sons, William M.

Duffy, Dr. John G. Lavin and Thomas J. Lavin, all of Baltimore, and Frances X. Lavin, of Rumson, N.J.; and six Born In Baltimore, he was a graduate of Mount St.

Joseph College. He was a member of the Santa Maria Council of the Knights of Columbus, the Friendly Sons of St. Patrick, the Maryland Law Enforcement Officers, the Optimist Club of HIghlandtown, the Holy Name Society at St. Brigid's Church and the Grunwald Club of East Baltimore. He Is survived by his wife, the former Agnes Krolicka; three daughters, Mary Jane Beach of Baltimore, and Margaret Schaefer and Suzanna Silk, both of Rosedale; a brother, Vincent Silk of Baltimore; a sister, Anna Nuedling of Baltimore; nine grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.

Laura B. Bowen Retired secretary Services for Laura B. Bowen, secretary with the American Agricultural Co. for 38 years, will be held at 10 a.m. today at the Leonard J.

Ruck funeral establishment, 5305 Harford Road. Miss Bowen, 85, died unexpectedly Wednesday In Virginia Beach, Va. Born in Baltimore, she became a secretary for the former American Agricultural now owned by the Conoco Corp. She held that position for 38 years until her retirement In 1964. Miss Bowen was an active member of the Women's Traffic and Transportation Club, and the Business and Professional Women's Club of Baltimore.

She was a longtime active member of Abbott Presbyterian Church prior to moving to Virginia Beach after her retirement She Is survived by a nephew, Capt. W. C. Nicklas U.S. Navy retired, of Virginia Beach, and four grandnieces.

Rev. G. Jackson Founder of church Services for the Rev. George Jackson, founder and pastor of First St. Stephens Baptist Church, will be held at 11:30 a.m.

today at Union Temple Baptist Church, North and Madison avenues. Mr. Jackson died Wednesday at Lutheran Hospital after a long Illness. He was 66. Born in Timmonsvllle, S.C., he was raised in Richmond, Va.
