THE SUN, BALTIMORE, WEDNESDAY MORNING. SEPTEMBER 18. 1968 PAGE A 15 APPEAL AIDE SERVICE SET Brooks Nichols, 59, Died Unexpectedly Memorial services for J. Brooks Nichols, a United Appeal official, will be held at 11 A.M. tomorrow at the Church of the Redeemer, Charles street and Melrose avenue.

Mr. Nichols, who was 59, died unexpectedly Monday at his home on Marburth avenue. Born in New York, Mr. Nichols spent his early years in Detroit. He was educated at the Hill School, Pottstown, and Yale University.

He Served served In with World the War II Army during World War II and the rank of captain. After the war, he lived in Alexandria, and worked for a food company and an advertising agency before coming to Baltimore in 1954, when he joined the sales promotion department of the American Credit Indemnity Company of New York. Mr. Nichols was a former president of the Baltimore chapter, of the American Public Relations Association. Wife Among Survivors He was active in the Boy Scouts, serving as scoutmaster of Troop 35, which is sponsored by the Church of the Redeemer.

He had also been 1 active in the Towson Y.M.C.A. Mr. Nichols is survived by his wife, Mrs. Grace Ashton Nichols; a son, Brooks Ashton Nichols, of 1 the home; a son and a daughter by a previous marriage, J. Brooks Nichols 3d, of South Pomfret, and Mrs.

Henry Clifford, of Morristown, N.J.; his father, J. Brooks Nichols, of Ridgefield, Conn; a Brother, Dr. Edward Nichols, of Hartford, and eight grandchildren. J. T.

Clisham, Rites Scheduled Funeral services will be held here tomorrow for James T. Clisham, a Bethlehem Steel Corporation official who for a number of years was attached to the corporation's Sparrows Point plant. Mr. Clisham, who 51, died Sunday at his home in Hamburg, N.Y., after a brief illness. He had been associated with Bethlehem's plant in Lackawanna, N.Y., since 1963.

The funeral services will be held at 10 A.M. at the Ruck funeral establishment, 5305 Har- ford road. Was Hopkins Graduate Born in Baltimore, Mr. Clisham was a 1938 graduate of the Johns Hopkins University, where he received a degree in engineering. He began work at the Sparrows Point plant as an open-hearth observer the same year.

He was promoted to assistant chief observer in 1946; to chief observer in 1947; to superintendent of the Number 1 openhearth department in 1948, and to superintendent of Number 3 en in 1953. Wife, 4 Children Survive Mr. Clisham was a member and former director of the Eastern- section of the American Institute of Metallurgical Engineers. He is survived by his wife, the former Stella Franczkows-1 daughters, Mrs. Dorothy L.

Savage and Mrs. Carole A. Mackin, both of Baltimore, and: Miss Sandy J. Clisham, of Hamburg; a son, James T. Clisharm 3d, also of Hamburg; a sister, Mrs.

Myrtle L. Lobig, of Baltimore; a brother, William F. Clisham, of Baltimore, and two grandchildren. Gordon I. Bozman Funeral services for Gordon I.

Bozman, a commercial for a Baltimore electric supply company, will be held at 1 P.M. today at the McNabb funeral establishment, 301 Frederick road. Mr. Bozman died Saturday at St. Joseph Hospital after being stricken with a heart attack.

He was 58 years old and lived at 416 Lambeth road. Survivors include his wife, the former Elizabeth Groves; a son, Bruce Gordon Bozman, of Baltimore, and a sister, Mrs. Elaine B. Sturm, of Baltimore. Barnes Funeral Set Tomorrow New York, Sept.

17 (A) -Funeral services will be held at 11 A.M. Thursday at Christ Methodist Church here, for Henry A. Barnes, New York traffic commissioner who previously held the same job in Baltimore and Denver. Mr. Barnes, 61, collapsed and died on the job yesterday while talking to an aide.

His widow and two children survive, RITES TODAY FOR CHERTKOF Real Estate Developer Was Active In Civic Affairs David W. Chertkof, who for many years, was a Baltimore real-estate developer and broker, died yesterday at a nursing home after a long illness. He was 86 years old and lived at 4406 Springdale avenue. Born in Russia, Mr. Chertkof came to Baltimore in 1904 and started work with a textile manufacturer.

A few years later he established his own tailor shop at 205 West Franklin street and later became a designer of vaudeville costumes for actors at the Maryland Theater. Built Shopping Centers He began his real estate operations in the middle 1920's and during his career in real estate developed several area shopping centers. He was founder and president of the Franklin Realty and Finance Company. Mr. Chertkof was long active in charitable organizations and was keenly interested in Jewish education, being a founder, officer and director of the Talmudical Academy, the Ner Israel Rabbinical College, the Bais Yaakov School and the Hebrew Education Association.

Funeral services will be held at 11 A.M. today at the Sylvan Lewis funeral establishment, Reisterstown and Valley roads. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Annie Chertkof; two daughters, Mrs. Ethel Posnick, of Hollywood, and Mrs.

Helen Gimbel, of New York; two sons, Jack O. Chertkof, and Benjamin Clayten; nine grandchildren, and fifteen greatgrandchildren. Eldridge F. Ashburn Funeral services for Eldridge F. Ashburn, a Baltimore sales representative for McCormick will be held at 11 A.M.

today at the Heeman funeral establishment, 6067 Harford road. Mr. Ashburn, who was 55, died Sunday at Mercy Hospital following a brief illness. He lived at 3606 Woodlea avenue. A native of Weems, Mr.

Ashburn received his early education in Lancaster county, Va. He became associated with McCormick in 1945 and for the past twelve years sold to the institutional food industry in Baltimore and on the Eastern Shore. Earlier, he had been in retail sales for McCormick. Was Sports Enthusiast Well known to persons in the Baltimore food trade, Mr. Ashburn had been a member of the Food Service Executives of Baltimore and the Restaurant Association of Maryland.

He served for three years with the Army during World War II and held the rank of sergeant. He enjoyed fishing and was an enthusiastic football and baseball fan. Mr. Ashburn is survived by his wife, the former Elsie Dryer; two daughters, Mrs. Shirley A.

17 -John J. Grogan, president of the Industrial Union of Marine and Shipyard Workers of America (AFL-CIO), died of a heart attack yesterday. He was 54. Mr. Grogan also was; a vice president of the AFL-CIO Executive Council and served as mayor of Hoboken for three terms in 1953, 1957 and 1961.

Among the shipyard workers in the Baltimore area, the IUMSWA has four locals, Mr. Grogan was well known. He was born in Hoboken on March 26, 1914, and grew up here. He began his labor union affiliation with the AFL steamfitters in 1931 and became exlecutive secretary-treasurer of Local 15 of the shipbuilders in 1937. In 1943, he became a vice president and member of the general executive board of IUMSWA.

In 1951, he became international president of the union. He served as president of the Hudson Council Industrial Union Council, the New Jersey State Association and the Hoboken City Council. He also has served as a representative to the International Labor Organization for the United States. A native of Wichita, Ernie Blandin played for the Colts in both the All America Conference and the National Football He became a member of the team in 1948 and retired when the team dissolved after the 1950 season. He came out of retirement when the team was re-established in 1953 and played during that season. He played college football at Tulane University, New Orleans, where he was given a place on the All America and All Southeastern Conference teams.
