Stripling passed 33 yards to end Harry Wood for the go- ahead touchdown. Two minutes earlier he had gone one yard to score.

Tulsa's first score came on a field goal in the first quarter. Warren McVea, Houston's hard running back, scored the Cougars' first touchdown by skirting right end for three yards. Paul Gipson dashed 17 yards for the other Houston score. Abandoning its traditional passing game in the first half, Tulsa covered 61 yards on the ground for its first score as Doug Wytt' booted a 32-yard Glenn Dobbs 3d, son of the Tulsa coach, quarterbackea lne Hurricane the entire first half and attempted only one pass. In the second half, however.

Stripling took over and completed 11 of 21 passes for 184 yards. Cee Ellison, Tulsa fullback, ran 51 vards to push his season total to 626, the highest total since 1952 for a Tulsa player. Starts Against Colts Today TEXAS TECH mwc cm on Loss Drops. Arkansas Out Of Liberty Bowl Little Nov. 25 Texas Tech quarterback Joe Matulich, defensive tackle James Maylon and kicker Kenny Vinyard combined talents for a 31-to-27 victory as the Red Raiders stopped a valiant Arkansas rally and knocked the Razorbacks out of a possible bowl bid for the second straight year. Tech defeated Arkansas, 21- 16, last year in the season finale and kept the Razorbacks out of the Cotton Bowl. Arkansas sources said the Razorbacks would have gone to the Liberty Bowl this year they had beaten Tech.

Two TD Drives Matulich guided the Raiders on touchdown drives of 74 and 48 yards. Vinyard tied a South west Conference record with his ninth field goal of the year, a 46-yarder that gave Tech a 17-0 halftime lead. Matulich passed four yards to Mike Leinert for Tech's third touchdown and a 24- lead less than three minutes into the third quarter. Then Arkansas quarterback Ronny South began connecting. South iht David Dickey on a 70-yard touchdown pass and Max Peacock with a 77-yard bomb.

Dickey also scored from two yards out as the Razorbacks moved to 31-21 in the final minutes of the third quarter. The winning touchdown proved to be Maylon's 31-yard interception return of a South pass. Maylon's rumble putTech on top 31-14, with 2.15 left in the third period. South came back with a touchdown pass to Peacock and hooked up with tight end Mike Signam for a 14-yard touchdown that moved the Razorbacks within four points with four minutes left in the game. Tech then ran out the clock with three big first downs.

The victory assured Tech of at least a second place tiet in the Southwest Conference race. The loss left Arkansas with a 4-5-1 record. This was coach Frank Broyles's first losing season since the Porkers went 4-6 in 1958. Tech Ark. Baltimore is favored by 10 points on the coast against a team that has lost four straight games and is now out of the Coastal Division race with a 5-5 record.

When the 49ers were healthy and winning team seven games ago, they came to the Baltimore Memorial Stadium and were treated as roughly as a Chesapeake crustacean at a political crab feast, losing 41 to 7. Since then key injuries have cut down their'efficiency and apparently have brought on dis sension in the ranks. Thomas Lost The first injury to hurt the 49er cause was to offensive guard John Thomas. Then came sidelining but not seasonal long injuries to tullbacks Ken Wil- lard and Gary Lewis. Dave Parks, S.F.'s best receiver also has been hampered by injuries Now the 49ers will be playing without the services of Monte Stickles, "Mr.

Meany" himself, at tight end. Stickles is out with a broken arm and rookie Bob Windsor will take over for him. According to rumors thp Spurrier iWBrodie move had the approval of the entire 49er playing personnel, which lends credulence to reports of intern al conflict. The trouble is that things look too favorable for the Colts, who have won ten straight times from San Francisco. Last week the 49ers battled the Green Bay Packers in a tough defensive Fairmont.

W. AVa' Nov. 25 A. Fairmont State blended a sur prise passing attack, full-hack Larrv Blackstone's line- ripping and a sturdy defense todav to defeat favored North ern Michigan, 21-7, and moved into the N.A.I.A. small-colleee football championship.

The victorv Qualified the un beaten Falcons, who rang ur their tenth straight victory, for the finals against the winner ot the New Mexico Highlands-Eastern Washington State game being played at Las Vegas, New Mexico. Early Touchdown The Falcons bounced into an early lead on the muddy field when quarterback John Kara tossed a 19-vard Dass to tailback George Edwards, who made a juggling catch and fell into the end zone for the touchdown. John Huff added the conversion. Fairmont took advantage of a short Northern Michigan punt for its second touchdown in the second period. Ron Robison took a Kara pitchout and swept left end for the score.

Huff, younger, brother of professional football veteran Sam Huff, booted his second conversion and Fairmont had a 14-0 lead. N. The 'Colts are physically fit. John Unitas and his offense should be at their peak with the return of Raymond Berry at left end. But in the last meeting, it wasn Berry who made the big plays against the 49ers but Ray Perkins.N The rookie is now in the hospital with a banged up knee. In that game, Ray caught two touchdown passes. Hawk Blocks, Too Berry will not start, having just come off the inactive list and recovering from a separat ed shoulder injury.

Alex Haw kins, "Captain Who and "Cap tain Daybreak, of the Colts, will get the starting nod. It should be pointed out that the Colt running game has am proved since Hawkins has been used at end. The Hawk is great blocker. -A running game is something the 49ers haven't had to con tend with too much in past Colt games. Since they lost ten in a row they should be thankful that Unitas just picked them apart with passes instead of using his mallets, Tony Lorick and Tom Matte, to smash them to pieces Because the 49er rush of the passer is so good the team leads the league in tackles of quarterbacks with 31 a running threat will help protect Unitas, whose physical being is now the most important thing in Balti more's drive to the champion ship.

Nov. 25 iTl Georgia blended a touchdown pass with the running of Ronnie Jenkins today and jarred Georgia Tech's bid for an upset, 21 to 14, in the 62nd battle between the state football rivals. The Liberty Bowl bound Bulldogs, hobbled by five fumbles, couldn't nail down the victory until the last minute when Jake Scott intercepted a pass to snuff. Tech final threat. Jenkins, an old fashioned full back, hammered home a pair of touchdowns and quarterback Kirby Moore caught Tech by surprise with a 66-yard scoring pass to give Georgia a 7-to-3 record for the season.

Tech, a 17 -point underdog, dropped behind 14-to-0 in the first half but dominated play in the last two quarters before bowing for the fourth straight year to the Bulldogs. The toss left Tech with a 4-to-6 record, its worst since 1945. Substitute quarterback Larry Good guided Tech on a 56-yard scoring march in thet hird quart er, capping the drive with a one-yard scoring leap, and the Yellow Jackets added another touchdown with three minutes left with Dennis James scoring on a 2-yard run. AM TO 12 NOON Gainesville, Nov. 25 (rlV- Larry Green and quarterback Kim Hammond pushed Florida State past Florida, 21 to 16, and into the Gator Bowl today. Hammond, the nation's third best in total offense, came back from a second quarter head injury to ice the game in the final period. But it was Green who pulled the Seminoles out of an early hole with his running and led them to a pair of touchdowns. Trailing 3-0 and backed to within four yards of their goal on a Harmon Wage's punt, Flo rida State came to life when Green swept left etnd for 17 yards, ran over the middle for four, caught a 10-yard pass, and scampered 22 yards on a twisting course to the Florida 45.
