Editors, Bar Seek Guidelines On Trial News Representatives of the American Society of Newspaper Editors and the American Bar association agreed yesterday that there is a need for lawyers and the press in Illinois to establish guidelines for the judicious release of criminal trial news. The meeting was called to see if ways could be found to protect the rights of defendants and still preserve freedom of the press. Committees representing the groups were unable to work out details of such a plan yesterday, but a spokesman said they agreed meet again for further discussions. The fair trial-free press controversy has resulted in guidelines being accepted by newsmen and lawyers in at least states.

The meetings started yesterday are directed at adding Illinois to that list, a spokesman said. The Bar association's advisory committee on fair trial and free press was headed by Judge Edward De Vitt, chief of the federal District court in St. Paul. Robert Fichenberg, of the Knickerbocker News, Albany, N. was chairman of the A.

Bell said after the meeting that many of the group's statements are misleading they and are that many of the alrequesting ready are being accomplished. TRAPPING OF 2 POLICE IS SEEN AS INTENTIONAL Police said yesterday they 1 believe the entrapment of two policemen in an elevator Tuesday in a housing project at 1440 14th was intentional.

Tho the policemen were not injured, their squad car was damaged during their absence. Patrolmen Dominick Rose and Carlo Remondo of the Monroe street station arrived at the building in response to a call that a girl had been injured on the 12th floor. They got in an elevator with two youngsters, but the elevator stopped between the second and third floors. The patrolmen said they were in the elevator for about 20 minutes. When they went back to their squad car, they found the blue light and head lights of the car were broken and the battery and radiator hoses were severed.

The injured girl was not found. Cherson NORTH: 929 BELMONT Block West of Clark St. WEllington 5-1724 WEST: 5911 Madison St. at Mason EStebrook 8-7500 EUclid 6-3720 Ale Conditioning Ample Parking Impathy flowers Amune's Howerland Open Evenings and Sundays 344-0770 Funeral Directors C. H.
