Was Paralized The incident resulted in a painful broken back for Rhoten, and he was paralyzed from the waist down. After spending much time in the hospital, he went-home. But later infection started in both hip bones. His legs were both amputated in the, summer of 1953. "Most of the time," said Rhoten, "I have spent in bed, but once in a while I get up in the wheel chair.

My parents and my brother and the Visiting Nurse Association help me." He lives with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. John Rhoten, and his brother, John Jr. They may not be able to help me in New Jersey," Rhoten said, 'because, when they amputated my they also took out my hip bones and sockets. They will lave to put something in place of my hip bones to give me support besides the legs." TeTls Possibilities Rhoten may be there for a month or maybe three or four.

If he can be fitted with the legs, he must stay there for training in iow to manipulate them. "If they can't fit me, then they'll fix up a large bucket for me to sit in so I will be able to keep my balance." I learned about the new hope for legs through the local Vocational Rehabilitation Office. They came to see me about it," Rhoten stated. "They told me it looked pretty good, but that I shouldn't get my hopes up too high." The Falcon was conceived by the Air Force in 1947 and developed and produced by the Hughes Aircraft Co. at Culver City, and Tucson, Ariz.

In words and pictures, the Air Force disclosed the Falcon to be a cigar shaped missile, looking like rocket and about six feet long. At its warhead end, it is a little arger than a man's head. Under tbe Wings Pictures showed it can be carried under the wings of a jet fighter, as ordinary rockets have been in the past. When the pilot spots an approaching enemy bomber on his radarscope, the target is "locked" the guidance system. An electronic computer takes over and fires the missile automatically.

In films taken of recent tests, a drone BIT bomber was the target. Although the bomber maneuvered in attempts to dodge, the missile shifted its course and scored a direct hit. The Air Force said similar results have been achieved when the target was a iet fighter. The Air Force said the Falcon has an effective killing range of from three to five miles. It was understood that interceptor units in Greenland and Alaska would be among the first outfits to get the Falcon.

Guard officials said the purpose of the meeting is to acquaint them with the proposed plan for the two-story structure. and Pearl St. Reluctance To Increase Taxes Senate Indicates Opposition By Vote DES MOINES JP--The Iowa Senate indicated anew Monday its reluctance to increase taxes when it voted down 30-1? a bill to remove four top employes of the Iowa Development Commission from control of the state division of personnel. The measure was defeated after Sen. DeVere Watson (R Council Bluffs) declared that it was in effect a tax increase bill because it would permit the commission fo increase the salaries of the four employes. Sen.

G. E. Whitehead (R-Perry) said the bill was necessary because the commission had found it impossible to keep the four key employes under the salaries it now is permitted to pay them. The Iowa Development Commission was set up to promote industrial development of the state. Sen.

Whitehead said that since 1948 the commission had been instrumental in bringing 885 new industries into Iowa. Four Key Employes The four key employes, Whitehead said, are the industrial director and three field men. "These men must be experts in their line," Whitehead declared. "We lose on an average of one a year because they are hired away by private industries or other governmental agencies which can pay them more money." The commission recently lost its industrial director to the City of Burlington, Whitehead said. Previously one of the key employes had gone to work for a firm in Minneapolis and one to a company in Illinois, he said.

Watson argued that it would cost more tax money to permit pay raises for these men and declared: "I don't have a single letter in rny files from any business men asking for a raise in taxes." Refuse Sponsorship DES MOINES JP--House Agriculture Committee No. 2 declined Monday to sponsor a bill to carry out one of Gov. Leo Hoegh's recommendations. Hoegh had recommended establishment of a marketing division in the Department of Agriculture. A bill prepared for that purpose and carrying an appropriation of 5100,000 was submitted to the committee along with a request that it sponsor the measure.

Rep. George Paul (R-Brooklyn), committee chairman, said the vote on the proposition was such that it will not be given further consideration. vl and i P. M. T'llOHATK N'OTICK IN THE DISTRICT COntT OF IOWA IN A I FOR I'OTTA- A A I MARCH TERM.
