This Rare Lincoln Portrait Pyles, local photographer. Reveals Rare Lincoln Picture Unearthed Only Two Years Ago A rare and unusual photograph of Abraham Lincoln, whose birthday anniversary is Saturday, was revealed here this week. A glossy print of the photo is owned by Bob Pyles of 221 Fourth St. Pyles got the print from Tony Wieners, a portrait photographer in Topeka, under whom Pyles studied. The picture was taken about 1860 during one of Lincoln's political campaigns, Pyles said.

"But it was not used at the time," he added. The negatives on eight by 10 inch glass plates were mislaid at the time, he added. They were unearthed only two years ago in Philadelphia by a collector from Springfield, HI. "It is not only an excellent study of Pyles said, "but a fine example 'of the por- traiyphotography of that era." Surplus Butter Is Received By County The Pottawattamie County Welfare Department Thursday received 4,480 pounds of butter for distribution in the surplus commodity food program. Welfare Director Ernest Carter said the consignment consisted of 140 cases. Each case contains 32 pounds of butter. The butter came out of a federal government holding stored in Council Bluffs, Carter said. The butter was made in Wisconsin.

Distribution of the surplus foods will be held from 9 a to 4 m. on Wednesday, Thurdsday and Friday. Identification cards are being sent out to those entitled to the foods. Persons are asked to go to 231 Pearl St. to claim their allotments.
