SPERRY RAND FOUNDER DIES IN BAHAMAS New York, June 4 UP James Henry Rand, 81, inventor and a co-founder of Sperry Rand corporation, died yesterday at Freeport, Grand Bahama Island, where he had been living in retirement. In recent years he had devoted his time to planning philanthropy for research and other causes. Retired in 1959 Rand retired in 1959 as vice chairman of the board of Sperry Rand, a diversified corporation. He had been president and chairman of the Remington Rand corporation before its merger with the Sperry corporation in 1955. Years ago, with a borrowed $10,000, Rand founded the Kardex company, which was based on his invention of the Kardex cabinet, a filing system.

He soon was doing better than his father, the late James H. Rand who operated the Rand Ledger company of Tonawanda, N. and the two rival firms were List of Dead Dead are Mrs. Beatrice Hig-gins, 32, of 3631 Flournoy and her two children, Larry, 2, and Rochelle, 1.
