The statements of seven former inmates, no. housed in state penitentiaries, were presented to the grand jury last Wednesday by Patrick A. Tuite, chief of the criminal division of the state's attorney's office.

Confirmed by Lie Tests The statements, all confined by lie detector tests, we. taken by Josep R. Rowan, executive director of the John Howard association, a prisoner welfare agency which has been critical of jail operations. Tuite and Rowan refused to discuss the statements.
