Miller, 72, a Republican congressman for 12 years, died today in Easton hospital after a long illness. A native Marylander and veteran of both world wars, Miller represented Maryland's 1st district between 1946 and 1958. During World War II, Miller, a colonel, was liaison officer between Lt. Gen. A roadblock was set up at Barring-ton road and Illinois highway 58, near Hoffman Estates. Meeks said Crain tried to avoid the roadblock, lost control of his car, and collided with Meeks car. 20 UR A converted B-25 loaded with CARE packages bound for Cuba by way of Mexico was damaged at Miami International airport early today when an engine apparently exploded. No one was injured. The plane, registered to Ramon Masso of Merida, Mexico, had been loaded when the explosion occurred, according to John Puccerella, a ramp supervisor. R. Napoles, a customs agent said the plane was loaded with medicine, clothing, and food and was scheduled to go to Cuba by way of Merida, Mexico.

"It looked like a bombing to me," he said. The blast destroyed the engine and damaged part of a wing. Surviving are his widow, Lillian; two daughters, Mrs. Lil- days when these were only Carrie L. Western av. Mr. Hoffmann died Friday in Swedish Covenant hospital. A prize-winning cellist, he had played with the Chicago Symphony orchestra and the Chicago Opera company. Surviving are his widow, Ethel; a daughter, Mrs.

Doolittle, 83 of 717 S. Lyman Oak Park, a retired Chicago public school teacher who had taught at Spencer Elementary school and Frances Carmen Jannece; grand- 1938, and Miller lost his seat to Thomas F. Johnson by 718 votes. Born in Sandy Springs, in Montgomery county, Miller was educated at Friends school in Washington and earned his college degree at Yale. Pursues Law Degree He had begun working for a law degree at George Washington university, but left to join the army a few weeks before the United States entered World War I in 1917.

Following defeat in the elections of 1938, 1960, and 1962, Miller still remained active within the party, and attended the Republican National convention in 1964. Mrs. Harshaw, of 723 Elm Winnetka, died Thursday in the home of a daughter in Glencoe.

In 1962, she won a Peabody award for her network children's radio program, and was honored by the Society of Midland Authors last April. Her program started on a local station, WMAQ, and was broadcast over more than 90 stations on the NBC network. Until a recent illness, Mrs. Harshaw directed the weekly radio program Battle of Books on WBEZ, a station of the Chicago board of education. Surviving are three daughters, Mrs.
