Hart, plant manager for the F. H. Jaffe Manufacturing company, 1001 Van Buren died yesterday in Edgewater hospital. Mr. Hart, a native of Liverpool, England, immigrated to the United States 15 years ago.

He was a British army veteran of World War II and fought in the Battle of Dun STUDENT DIES AS HIS AUTO RAMS A TRUCK Only Minor Injury for Other Driver A student on his way to classes in Kankakee was killed yesterday when the car he was driving rammed a dump truck in state highway 17 seven miles west of Kankakee. James Orrison, deputy coroner of Kankakee county, said the victim, Leslie D. Tobey, 17, of Herscher, Kankakee county, was driving east at the time and that his vision may have been impaired by the sun. The truck driver, Roy Mou-trey, 43 of 145 S. Alma Michael J.

Madden Mass for Michael J. Madden, 46, of 9214 Claremont will be said at 11 a. m. tomorrow in Christ the King Catholic church, 9235 Hamilton av. Mr.

Madden, a steel salesman, died Sunday in Presbyterian-St. Luke hospital. He formerly was the proprietor of several businesses near his home. Surviving are his daughter, Karen Marie; his mother, Celia; his sister, Margaret; and a brother, the Rev. Daniel Madden.

Miss Anna E. Slater Services for Miss Anna E. Slater, 74, of 6701 Ridgeland will be held at 1:30 p. m. today in the chapel at 424 E.

103d st Miss Slater, who died Saturday, retired 10 years ago after 25 years as a sales person in the crystal ware department of the old Fair store on State street. A sister, Mrs. Alice Peterson, and a brother, Thomas Slater, survive. kirk. Surviving are his widow, Martin Mackowiak, 56, of 1318 N.

Artesian was asphyxiated yesterday by gas in his apartment, and his wife, Marie, 50, was taken to St. Elizabeth hospital in serious condition. Mrs. Mary Fisher, who lives in, the apartment above the Mackowiak's, notified police when the couple did not respond to her knocks at their door. Police broke in the door and found the couple in bed and the fumes in the apartment.

They said a tea kettle cooking on the stove apparently had boiled over and extinguished the burner's flames. Mackowiak had been employed as a janitor by the Guardian Electric Manufacturing company, 1550 Carroll and was on medical leave while recovering from a leg fracture. Auto Hit by Train Kenneth Martinez, 25, of 2701 McAfee, Hobart, died in Passa-vant Memorial hospital yesterday of injuries suffered Saturday when his car was hit by a Pennsylvania railroad freight train. Martinez' auto was dragged for more than a mile after it was hit as it crossed tracks at County Line road between Porter and Lake counties, Indiana. Mr. King died Sunday in his home at 4140 South Park way. At the time of death, Mr. King was 3d ward Republican committeeman, vice chairman of the Cook County Central committee, and a member of the G. O.

P. State Central committee. He was still practicing law with offices at 180 W. Washington st. Mr.

King had been a leader in Negro civil and political circles since his arrival in Chicago in 1913. He was a Republican ward committeeman for 32 years, 16 years in the 2d ward and 16 years in the 3d ward. Served as State Senator He served four years as a state senator and eight years as a state" representative. He had run unsuccessfully several times for congress. Mr.

King had served 16 years as a member of the state industrial commission, was an assistant state's attorney for two years, an assistant city corporation counsel for five years, and an assistant attorney at the sanitary district for two years. He also had been a commissioner of the Century of Progress. He had been a delegate to three Republican Presidential nominating conventions. Born in Louisiana Born in Louisiana, he obtained his law degree at John Marshall Law school, was admitted to the bar in 1916, and was a practicing attorney for more than a half century. He had been educated earlier at Philander Smith college in Little Rock, and Howard university in Washington.

Train William Westhoff, 78, a patient in a nursing home at 7270 South Shore was struck and killed yesterday by an Illinois Central commuter train at 73d street and Exchange avenue. Witnesses told police that gates at the crossing were lowered and an alarm bell was ringing when Westhoff approached and walked around the gates into the Miss Josephine Pitts Services for Miss Josephine Pitts, 42, of 9349 Rhodes will be held at 3 p. m.
