Of all the characters, the best performance is turned in by Use Steppat as Irma Bunt, Blofeld's masculine-feminine assistant who thinks that rouge is something you bet in roulette. She is consistently hideous and a fiendish delight to watch.

Yes, the violence is excessive. Excessive not because it will damage the minds of people who see the film, but excessive because it begins to lose meaning. One concrete wall meeting one head doesn't have the same impact after that head has been hit by a two-by-four. And yes, there are fewer gadgets. But I loved those gadgets.

And it is a relief when a computer-plus-copying machine comes thru a window and opens a safe. The well-designed background music, added to the danger that the safe's owner may return, makes this the best sequence in the film. Disappointing opening titles and two co-plots haphazardly stuck together prove that even Her Majesty is finding it difficult to get good help.
