The three Charles Lynch, 54, formerly of San Bernardino, and Richard B. Norton, 32, and Joseph Carroll, 20, both of Baltimore had argued that their conviction, violated then-rights of free speech. Their appeals of two-year jail sentences, handled by the American Civil Liberties union, were rejected without comment. Wallace forces say they could carry Michigan with a 50 per cent vote, stand a good chance in Pennsylvania, and will pull off some startling upsets in other states. Rejects Bombing Halt But LeMay, at his first press conference since returning early yesterday from a four-day visit to Viet Nam, said he "gathered" that a new communist offensive was expected. Information, he said, indicated a "massive movement of supplies" from the north toward South Viet Nam.

"You condemn Americans to death if you call a unilateral bombing halt," said LeMay. This country has tried that before, he said, and all it has reaped is more rapid movement of North Vietnamese supplies into South Viet Nam. Asked his reaction if President Johnson were to declare a bombing halt without publicly a wledging concessions from Hanoi, LeMay gave a soft answer. Give President a Chance "You have to give the President a chance," he said. "Dissension in this country has helped the enemy.

Please omir tiowers. visnanun Tuesday after 4 p. m. Information, GILBERT CHESTERTON noted that the Sermon on the Mount is not a beautiful discourse that our sad but sane planet cannot reasonably accept; rather it is sanity preached to a planet of lunatics. When we consider the plight of our world it is fairly obvious that we are slightly crazy.

We are not behaving with even reasonable common sense. If we apply the pragmatic test it is clear that our behavior has brought us to a time of grave peril and close to the destruction of all we cherish. Our human devices simply haven't worked. That is, they have not brought us peace or security or the abundant life. Augustine, speaking of God and ourselves remarked, "In His will is our peace." The alternative to that is, "Apart from His will is conflict." That, of course, is precisely what we have in almost every area of human relations.

We approach issues in terms of our wants, our wishes, our prejudices, and our opinions, but we seldom ask the question, "What does God want of me personally?" And yet, our hope lies in finding the will of God and seeing His will in relation to the Sermon on the Mount. We are somewhat in the predicament of a family seeing water dripping thru the ceiling of the living room, spilling onto the piano, the rug, and the table, and then rushing to get pails and mops to catch the water before it does serious harm. The battle against the torrent can't be won on such terms. With water cascading thru the ceiling, somebody might think to rush upstairs to the bathroom and turn off the basin faucet which Willie left running. So in our conflicts somebody might stop to ask, "What does God want me to do or say?" action: ARMY Pfc.

Police sought a possible link between the shooting deaths of the two persons found today and the week-end slayings of a 17-year-old Negro girl and two Negro men. Authorities said the investigation would include reports by the girl that she had been threatened after reporting her aiminal assault by four men. The two bodies were identified as those of Betty Jean Evans, 26, and Fred Plair, 28, both of East St. Louis. They were found in a field off a Mississippi levee road.
