Interment Mollie Slott with comic strips and features that include columns of advice, politics and sports, true detective stories, short fiction and serialized novels and other material that entertained or informed millions of readers every day. Few newspaper people in the country knew as many publishers and editors as did Mollie. 'Fewer still were as widely acquainted with the content of their newspapers. Editor and Saleswoman Mollie considered it a part of her job.

She was an astute editor but, as one longtime friend put it, she was also "one hell of a saleswoman." Thruout 56 years of service, Interrupted briefly by two maternity leaves, her devotion to the job was legendary. Colleagues remember that Mollie each day came early, stayed late and often skipped vacations. A former boss, Arthur W. Crawford, joked that Mollie almost had her second baby at her desk. Actually, Mollie had finished her work for the day and gone home before the infant was delivered.

Supervised Comic Strips No detail of the syndicate operation was too small to command her attention. She probably read more comic strips than anyone else in the country, poring over originals of every panel and more than a score of strips before they were distributed. While Joseph M. Patterson, late founder and long-time publisher of the N. Y.

News, developed many of the syndicate's most popular strips, it was Mollie who supervised the daily operation. Editor Publisher, newspa-pering's trade organ, said of Mollie: "She is as colorful as the artists whose work she helps edit" And Patterson, when a question would arise, often said, Trust Moffie's judgment" lied Abort Age Mollie got her first job with The Chicago Tribune that of stenographer by lying about her age. That was in 1910. By 1933, when CapL Pat-terson ordered the syndicate office moved from Chicago to five brothers. Services will be held at 10 a.
