So Verdict In AauauU Cmtn Iter, GritUu l'urwt-ll llruwu. f-Auulher Trlul Tomorrow. Tfo) trial of Parwell Brown for as-Baulting Rev. Lewis Griffin at Reno, Dec. 20th, took place in Justice Pearson's court, Saturday.

A large crowd of spectators was present, and the sympathies of the colored people were mostly with tha defendant. The testimony at timed was somewhat "rich." Griffin first told his story. Tie in a Very small man, and not pretty by any means, but has a "fetching" tnoustache which is jet black and flowing. He denied everything reflecting on his character. Several witnesses testified that Griffin showed a revolver before the assault, and a letter was introduced which ho had Pent to the defendant making threats as to what he would do when he came from Lawrence.

The letters sent by the clerical gentleman to Brown's wife were ruled out, and some of the testimony reflected seriously on Griffin's character. On one thing the testimony all agreed. That was as to the thrashing. It was even more thorough than the Mikkok stated last week. Brown seemed to have handled Griffin like a cat does a mouse.

The minister was thoroughly thrashed in Brown's Iioiish, then was permitted to get outside where he got another thrashing. Griffin was mauled all over Reno, and the suburbs one of the prominent people interfered and secured the minister's release. The jurors who' tried the case were Dad Harold, H. B. LeVan, Ned Winston, Ben Woods, Richard Pierce, R.

C. Nance, Hum Elliott, Doniram Stewart, Ashley Ratliff, E. F. Cooledge, Richard Miller and J. B.

Trew. The case went to the jury about three o'clock, but after a two hoops'' session failed to agree and were discharged. The case was conducted by Harry Maichel, of Leavenworth, on behalf of the state and Charles Tholen and S. J. MeNaughton on behalf of the defendant.

It has been set for trial again next Friday. It is said that two fights have occurred in Reno as an outcome of the difficulty now in the court, between parties who takes sides in the affair.
