In a speech in the Edgewater Beach hotel, Kyprianou said the Greek Cypriots have "resolutely decided to carry their struggle for self-determination to the very end, and they would rather die than surrender. Not Afraid of Threats "The threats by the Turks are not going to deter them, and there is nothing that can make them Greek Cypriots yield," he said. Kyprianou was the principal speaker at a dinner marking the 144th anniversary of Greek independence. It was sponsored by the Justice for Cyprus committee, and the Hellenic Academic Society of Illinois. More than 500 persons attended.

Denies Turk Charge Kyprianou denied Turkish charges that the rights of the Turkish Cypriots are being abridged. Eighty per cent of the population is Greek and 20 per cent is Turkish. Kyprianou was critical of American foreign policy involving Cyprus and also criticized the United States for providing Turkey with weapons under the military aid program. Says They Used Arms "And on argument arose among them as to which of them was the greatest." Luke 9:46 APPARENTLY there were status seekers among the disciples because "An argument arose among them as to which of them was the greatest." It was an absurd dispute, unworthy of mature men, nevertheless, here were the 12, the men Jesus had chosen arguing like small boys shouting at each other, "My father is more important than your father," or like some women lording it over others because their family tree is leafed with patriots and pioneers. Greatness, as Jesus made clear, is not a matter of status or family tree.

It does not hinge on wealth or power, nor on the adulation of approving crowds. The lonely prophet, scorned and despised, may be greater by far than kings and princes. The office boy may be more significant in the Kingdom of God than the president of the company. Jesus gave a reverse twist to the judgment of the world, inaugurating the doctrine of servant supremacy. The great are not those who are able to demand service, but those who serve humbly.

The aristocracy does not consist of the over-privileged consumers, but rather of the humble contributors to the common good of men. In the economy of God "the least among you all is the one. who is great," the last shall be first, and the first last. The status seekers really are self-defeating, wearing their souls thin to affirm their superiority to the ordinary run of men. It is those who give and spend themselves in toil for the sheer joy of contributing something to the life of humanity who find both freedom and greatness.

They are the housewives and the salesmen, the secretaries and the attorneys whose talents are dedicated to the service of the time being. Eternal God our Father, save us from the mad scramble for status, use our lives and our talents to enrich the life of mankind and to bless our time. Amen. POLICE ARREST that the governor had made a flat commitment that he will seek reelection in 1966. "I'll run again," Brown is reported to have told the congressmen.

U.S. HALTS SHIP BRINGING ARMS NICOSIA, Cyprus, March 29 Monday (LTD United States 6th fleet turned back a Greek freighter carrying Soviet Union anti-aircraft missiles from Egypt to Cyprus, the Greek Cypriot newspaper Tharros said today. Without quoting any source, the newspaper said the missile-carrying ship was intercepted on the high seas by units of the United States Mediterranean fleet Saturday night and was forced to return to its Egyptian port of departure.

2 Governments Silent A Pentagon spokesman in Washington said he had no information on such an action. There was no comment from the Cyprus government or from 6th fleet headquarters in Italy. The United States on March 19 had cautioned against the importation by Cyprus of antiaircraft missiles. American sources had indications that Greek Cypriots had been building anti-aircraft missile sites. Ignores U.
