Field Tests Show Fertilizer Pays on Corn Ground AMES--Field tests conducted by agronomists of the Iowa State college experiment station reveal that many Iowa farmers can now afford to apply commercial fertilizer to corn ground. In general eastern Iowa corn fields respond best to such applications. In 49 tesst in this area conducted during the past four years corn yields were increased by an average of 8.7 bushels acre when 100 pounds was applied a fertilizer attachment. Tin; average cost of this application was about $1.75 per acre.

Unfertilized check plots adjacent to these tests produced an average, yield of 68 bushels of corn per acre while the fertilized plots produced 76.7 bushels. Agronomists cite this difference to show that application of fertilizer pays even on many good soils.
