COUNTY SCRIP WORTH 90 CENTS ON THE DOLLAR. 13y ail advertisement in another column, it will be seen that S. B. Dilley, the Treasurer of Alturas county, offers 90 cents on the dollar, spot cash, for new county warrants, and par for witnesses' certificates. This is an appreciation, in the price of county scrip, of 13 cents on the dollar in the past few weeks, and 30 cents on the dollar in the past year.

A little over a year ago scrip was a drug in the market at GO cents on the dollar. Soon, however, it became evident that the Wood River section Would quadruple the amount of taxable property in the county, while the expense of administration would not increase in anything like the same proportion, and county warrants became more sought after. The price slowly crawled up to G5, then 70, and finally, S. B. Dilley offered 7 5 cents on the dollar.

At that figure, or thereabouts, it remained until the records were moved, here, when the evidences of thrift on every hand justifying another increase in price, Mr. Dilley boldly announces that he will pay 90 cents for certain classes of scrip, and par for another class. This figure of Mr. Dilley's is, of course, purely arbitrary and without binding effect on anyone else; and if men of means should become satisfied that our scrip was worth over 90 cents on the dollar, they will pay what they consider it worth It is therefore likely that ere long all local scrip will bring par. TUG WILSON AND SULLIVAN.

They Will Fight for (lie Championship of the World and a large Sum of Money. Chicago, July from New York: Richard K. Fox, Tug Wilson's backer, writes in response to an advancement by Madden on be- half of Sullivan: "In regard to matching Wilson to fight Sullivan for the championship of the world, I have to sav that my money is ready provided Madden will agree that the fight shall take place where both men shall receive fair play, and where I there will be no lizzie. At the time I was matching Faddy Ryan to light his protege for the Championship of the World, he would not any other battle-ground but New agree to Orleans or within 100 miles of that city. Being anxious to have the battie decided without any interference, I I allowed Madden and Sullivan to have their own way rather than have the sporting public deluded, and the result was that the battle was decided upon without any trouble.

I am willing to match Tug Wilson to fight Sullivan on the same conditions, because I know that there is every prospect of the pugilists being lowed to fight in Mississippi. If this does not suit I will allow my repre- E. Harding, to name three places where the battle can be decided, and I am willing that Harry Hill shall be final stakeholder, the referee i to be mutually agreed upon. I will give Harding niv check for, sav, 81 ,000, on Monday, and he will meet Madden at Harry Hill's on Monday night at 8 o'clock, to arrange match under my instructions. the President Barrios iu Washington.

As stated in these columns a few days ago, a crew of eight men left here last Saturday with a pack-train load of tools and supplies for Smoky District, to resume work on the King of the West, the mine recently purchased by Lennon Co. $20,000. Mr. Lennon left for Salt Lake last Sunday morning, to visit with his family, but intended to return in 10 days.

Just ns lie was about to get on the stage, lie informe a Times reporter that if he had not bought the King of the West he would have left last week for Al iska, as I had been here since last April without being able to take hold of anything that holiked, an I he had determined to leave this section for good. The mine which Mr. Lennon habought for himself and partners is really a most promising property. The vein varies from two feet nine inches to four feet six inches in width, and shows an ore-chute 450 feet long. The ore is quite highgrade, as all who have had any of it assayed can test fy.

Samples recently taken went as follows: Low est assay from bottom of shaft, as it lay loose on the ground, easing and all, 90 ounces; average of fin" ore on the dump, ounces; fair sampl outcrop, ISO ounces; sample from bottom of shaft, 50 foot level, 217 ounces. The ore also averages 55 per cent. 1- a 1. The King of the West will be worked for what it is worth. of Favorite Racers Disabled.
