ttii: A reporter car. l.e.p buti assess his subjects according to the ease with which they can be interviewed. John might rank first, with some gocd yarns about Wolf, and about the houe the Carrawavs lived in. in Vienna. It was the home of the Naxi Leader.

Carlton Bruner. whom the Allies have long since hanged. Some people in and around the house, not the Carraways fortunately, have had some bad luck lately. John Ls a bright blond lad and ought to go places in the world. Mrs.

Carraway is very justly proud of her husband's war re-, cord, and of the two. she is the1 only one who will talk about it.1 The colonel is a smart fellow and a pleasant one, with light red hair. He is too modest, for the1 purposes of the press, and a can operer is necessary, figuratively: speaking, to r4et him to open up. When the Colonel got out of West Poirt back in 1923. he began his Army wanderings and theyi took him to Raleigh as ROTC instructor at State College.

Miss! Mela Rovall had graduated from St. Mary's Schosl, the well known. Episcopal junior college on Hills-boro Street in Raleigh, with full! honors, being just about the! smartest girl in the school, ana then had become alumnae secretary of the school. It was in Raleigh that the colonel and his future wife met. Since their marriage, thev have lived just about all over the U.S..

in China, the Philippines and Europe. While Carraway was dismissing his war record with a sweep of the hand, Mrs. Carra-wav was bringing up a more pressing problem to the family namely housing. The colonel has a room in a on the campus, while Mrs. Carraway and John reside as guests of Maj.

Gen. and Mrs. William Arnold in uarters facing the college campus. Mrs. Carraway is looking for that which is the hardest to find a rental house, an i suffice to say, she has enlisted the aid of this department.

And strange to relate, this department has just about delivered, tho it is not in the real estate business, confining its regular activities, and Its re munerated activities, chieflv to writing for publication and broadcasting. Col. Carraway commanded the 26lst Regiment of the 64th Infantry in France during the Second World War. He led his men through some of the toughest fighting of the whole war, in the home stretch before the Germans surrendered. He won the Legion of Merit and the Brone Star for combat heroism, as wen as mentis from several friendly foreign governments in Europe.

After the war. he was assigned to Vienna and his family joined him. It was in Vienna that the family acquired Wolf. who. according to Mrs.

Carraway, is typically Teutonic in that he recognizes only the authority of the male members of the family meaning that of the colonel ar.d the boys. Interviewing the Carrawavs. that is, three of them, is a ma 'or assignment and a pleasant one for any reporter. They are all quick on the trigger mentally, and when either the Coltrel or Mrs. Carraway aren't inclined to answer.

John will tell you about the haunted house and about Wolf. Because of the hot weather and the lack of an office for the colonel, the interview was conducted in the Carraway automobile. The colonel has been assigned to school here for the next eight or nine months, so a rental house is the answer to their housing problem. Last Saturday night, the Carraways were introduced to the Tar Heel colony in Washington at the reception and dance given by the North Carolina Society at the Shoreham Hotel in honor of Secretary of the Army and Mrs. Kenneth Royall.

And speaking of Secretary Royall, a man noted for his objective and judicial attitude in public and private lfe, Mrs. Carraway relates an interesting story of his childhood and hers. Often, the children in the Royall family and their young friends would get into a controversy, and when they did, the Secretary's mother would Does Stomach' Gas and Bloat Hake You Feel Miserable?
