Forestville's freshwater Pitkin Marsh, home to a number of plants on the endangered list, was the subject of discussion again last Friday by county planners, botanists, Forestville residents and marsh-area property owners. Conservationists fear the effect of the proposed Russian River-Cotati Inertie (aqueduct) on the marsh, portions of which will be skirted by the Intertie.

They fear further deterioration of the area's ecology. County planner Ron Dering suggested additional meetings to discuss management regulations for the area. And it was noted that the county may hire a hydrologist to determine water requirements for the plants and homes on nearby land. Dr. Kenneth Stocking of California State College, Sonoma, raised the possibility of finding funds for outright purchase of the marsh.
