PAGE 8A THE PORTERVILLE, CALIF, RECORDER THURSDAY, JULY 2, 2009 ACCENT The Ray Baradat exhibit opens Thursday, July 2 at the Tulare Historical Museum, located at 4444 W. Tulare Tulare, and will run through Aug. 30. The exhibit will kick off with a reception from 5:30 to 7 p.m. in the Heritage Room.

The exhibit includes Baradat's music memorabilia, featuring "The Charades" and other musical acts. Baradat recently retired after a 33 year career with the Tulare Joint Union High School District. In 1959, he formed "The Charades," The group continues to perform at gigs and "DooWop" concerts. Today the group is made up of Baradat, baritone tenor, Syl Grigsby vocalist Sally Hamilton, Bob Dennison. Guitar; Gary Defoe, keyboard, John Keith, base; Joe Luis, Drummer, and Hunt Graves on guitar.

The museum is open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Thursday through Saturday from 12:30 to 4 p.m. on Sunday. Admission is $5 for adults, $3 for seniors 55 and up and Southern California Automobile Club members, $2 for students, and free for TCHS members and children under 5.

Students at area high schools who are at least 17 years old (16 years old with written parental consent) are also invited to donate, one more time, and give at this life-saving event. The drive will take place at the Central California Blood Center, 93 N. Main Street, Suite from 11:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Donors will receive a free T-shirt, the chance to win some special prizes, and a variety of discounts from Porterville and Valley businesses for dining, recreation, entertainment, and services.

Blood donation takes less than one hour to complete. Donors must be in good general health, weigh a minimum of 110 pounds and be at least 17 years old (16 years old with written parental permission). Senior citizens are encouraged to donate, as there is no upper age limit. Donors should eat a good meal and drink plenty of water within 4 hours prior to their donation. Donors can give blood every eight weeks.

Matinee performances will be performed at 2 p.m.

on July 18 and 25. Evening performances will begin at 7:30 p.m. on July 17, 18, 23, 24 and 25. Anything Goes will star Central Valley Christian graduate Anthony Vander Schaaf as Billy Crocker, and Mt. Whitney High School junior Makenda Bickmore as Hopef Harcourt.

Familiar songs from the 1934 musical include "Delovely," "You're the Top," "I Get a Kick Out of You," and "Anything Goes." The production of "Anything Goes" is the Theatre Company's 12th annual summer production. Seven performances of Anything Goes will be held at the L.J. Williams Theater in Visalia. The theater is located at 1001 W. Main Visalia.
