Ag Income Dips New York, Sept. 25 (JP) Avco Manufacturing Corporation today reported sharply increased sales but lower earnings for the nine tnonths ended August 3L Net sales were $312,728,859 compared with $219,939,742 in the $rst three quarters of last year. Net income was $3,163,343, equivalent to 32 cents a common share, against $6,647,079 or 72 cents a share a year ago. Victor Emanuel, chairman and president, said earnings during the past six months had been seriously affected by strikes in four Avco plants and one plant of an important customer. Meanwhile, Hector J.

Dowd, vice president and director of Avco, announced that he plans to retire from active business duties November 30 but will continue special assignments for the corporation. He was chairman of Bendix Home Appliances, from 1944 until it was acquired by Avco in 1950. Firestone Tire and Rubber Company reported net income of $32,626,278 for the nine-month period ended July 31. This was equal to $3.21 a share and compared with $29,099,954. or $7.35 a share in the like months of 1952.
