On the contrary, something personal was there, a spirit brooding, yes even sharing life with us.

and surely knowing us. There is a hint of what the image meant to Jesus in the small boy's prayer; Our Father who art in heaven, How do you know my name? He knows your name and has concern for you. Indeed, the gospel is good news about the universe and God. As Halford Luccock says, it affirms with Jesus that the world is not just a machine shop, not an orphan asylum, not just a ball of molten metal flung about in space. It is a home.

And when Jesus spoke of God as "Father," He gave answer to man's ultimate question, fashioned in the words of Walter de la Mare's poem, "The Listeners," "Is there anybody there?" said the traveler Knocking on the moonlit door. We are all travelers, knocking on the door of the universe and asking, "Is anybody there?" And Jesus answers," There's Somebody there," Somebody like a Father who cares. Maybe the Christian faith seems incredible when we blunder into the sharp and cutting edges of the world and meet crises of decision and of tragedy, but the man who meets the worst, able to say "Father" is the man who marches thru from Good Friday to Easter dawn. I can't explain the mystery of the God who knows your name; no one can. But I know that underneath the surface and the seeming of our lives there is a reality I know as "Father." Father of all mankind, we do not understand the mystery of Thy love, and yet we have been blessed by Thy brooding spirit and we are grateful.

Amen. Mountain Valley Water "All right, jou Riiys! Break it up!
