The Kickers were defeated by the Milwaukee Bavarians, 3 to 1, and the Rams were beaten, 6 to 0, by the St. Louis Schumachers.

The Bavarian-Kicker match, ordered by the United States Soccer Football association because the Kickers had used an ineligible player in an earlier match, was a game of halfs. The Kickers scored in the first half on a goal by Hans Po-litzky from 8 yards out while shutting out the Bavarians. In the second half the Bavarians tied the game on Richy Schwei- nerts goal at the 8 minute mark YESTERDAY 5 RESULTS Moior Division Maroons. Lions, 0. Liths, 5 Fortune, 0.

Doug Sanders, Ojai, also was only one shot off at this time. Stewart finished with a 70 and a 279 total for third place and Sanders came next with a 280, closing with a 70. Once during (he round, Jay Hebert, who had started seven strokes off the pace, went six under par on five holes and was only one shot away. He had four consecutive birdies and an eagle. Jay finished with a 68 and 283 for fifth place.

Stewart's near-miss saved some Las Vegas bookies from taking a tremendous loss. A group of 91 Texans flew up from Dallas to back their pro and bet an estimated $25,000 on him at odds ranging from 40-1 down to 25-1 and could have collected more than a half million dollars. The Big A Aqueduct in New York is showing a substantial increase in both betting and attendance over last year. The recent Laurel meeting in Maryland wound up way ahead of 1961 and Tanforan, near San Francisco, is enjoying a boost of 11 per cent in wagering and 9 per cent in crowds over last year. The trend has continued on to ctir town, too. Sportsman's Park will enter the final week of its 25 day meeting this afternoon with betting up approximately 5 per cent and attendance 8 per cent ahead of the corresponding period last year. Closes Saturday The west side track will close Saturday, after which the Chicago racing scene will shift to Washington Park for the opening of the rich coordinated Balmoral, Arlington Park, and Washington meeting, starting next Monday, May 14.

More than $4,500,000 in stakes and purses will be put up for grabs among horsemen during the session that year in and year out attracts the nation's finest runners. All of the horses that started in Saturday's Kentucky Derby, with the exception of Lee Town and Touch Bar, are eligible for the added American Derby that will be raced during the Chi cago Tribune Charities, week of racing, and the $75,000 added Arlington Classic. Pick Ditch Road Today's program at Sportsman's Park will be headed by the $3,500 Venetian Way purse. The six and a half furlong sprint for 3 year olds and older has drawn an overnight field of eight Ditch Road, Junior Foil, Sputnik, Demobilize, Val Hawley, Dededon's Joy, Mc's Maureen, and Fine Uncle. Ditch Road, owned by Marion Van Berg, appears the one to beat.

Decidedly Trainer Aims at Triple Crown' Louisville, May 6 While Decidedly, record setting winner of yesterday's Kentucky Derby, headed a mass exodus of 3 year old stars from Churchill Downs today, his trainer, Horatio Luro, declared the colt is ready for the 86th Preakness, May 19, at Pimlico. Decidedly, ridden by Bill Har-tack yesterday, has definite "triple crown qualities," Luro declared.

The third leg of the "triple crown" is the $125,000 added Belmont stakes to be run June 9 in New York. Fast Last Quarter "I showed Hartack the pic-! tures of Carry Back's Derby last year and showed him how a come-from-behind horse could win. studied ueroy cnarts for the last 20 years and figured a horse who could run the last quarter in 25 seconds or so could win. I figured Decidedly could do it in 24 seconds. I timed him in 24 1-5.

"Hartack rode to my instructions perfectly. I told him to lay back from the pace and let the speed horses burn themselves out." RUSSIA GAINS IN DAVIS CUP; WINS DOUBLES THE HAGUE, Netherlands, May 6 UP) Soviet Union tennis players won their doubles match from the Netherlands today and clinched a berth in the second round of the European zone tournament of the Davis cup competition. Tomas Leius and Sergei Lik-hachev, who had scored singles victories yesterday to celebrate Russia's debut in Davis cup play, combined to defeat Wil-lem Maris and Evert Schneider, 6-1, 7-5, 6-2, in just 55 minutes. This gave the Russians an unbeatable 3 to 0 advantage in the best-of-five series. They will meet Italy's European champions in the second round in Italy, May 18-20.
