No, I was never pinched on the Via Veneto but I was followed and gaped at and the men shouted, 'Bellesima Which is quite a compliment, as everyone knows "And every day for 10 days somebody sent two dozen gorgeous roses to my room with an unsigned note that said, 'Thank you for your Every day the two dozen roses and the same note except one day the note changed to: 'I look upon you with Well, now, I'd say that's pretty strong'romantic language, wouldn't you? I never did find out who my enraptured 'admirer' was and, come to think of it, I never did get a decent plate of spaghetti over there, either." Miss McCrea, daughter of a Greek mother and a Scot By Donald Freeman Hollywood ANN McCREA is a dis-armingly attractive redhead who is keen for SCUBA diving and who will, this coming season, be seen as the new next-door neighbor on the Donna Reed Show, a big break for Miss McCrea and perhaps a pleasant jolt of ginger for that long-lived series. 4 Actually, Miss McCrea is a strawberry blonde but her on-screen resemblance to Miss Reed made a change necessary. So she turned carrot-top.

Besides, as everyone knows who has ever seen Lucille Ball, redheads are naturally funnier even if they are natural blondes. "I must be the only girl in Hollywood with blonde roots growing in," said Miss McCrea. On the Donna Reed Show, Miss McCrea will turn up as "The hardest part about skin diving for a girl is putting on all that heavy equipment," she said, "which included a 35-pound tank. I've been down to 100 feet in my wet suit a wet suit is one that permits a layer of water to get in as a kind of shield." Miss McCrea paused and eyed me suspiciously. She has azure blue eyes that blend most beguilingly with red hair.

"Or if you're not interested in SCUBA diving you aren't really, are you? We can talk a hypnotism. Last week Cary Grant promised that he would teach me self-hypnosis and I think I'll take him up on it." Self-hypnosis under water? "That's possible," Miss McCrea nodded. "How do I know Cary Grant? I did a picture with him once. Don't ask the name of the picture because it was a bomb. Or maybe be we can talk about Rome where I spent two months and Ann McCrea Had the change of hair color affected her outlook on life? "Sure, becoming a redhead perked me up," Miss McCrea said.

"As a blonde I was sad and moody. Now it isn't really that I've changed but the attitude of people toward me has definitely changed. As a redhead, I seem to be attracting a different type of man instead of the men who prefer the soft, gentle blonde type I'm now very big with men who like a girl with a a little temper, a little fire." By Jean Lewis WATCHING the Arthur Godfrey radio show take form is an entertainment adventure not too dizzily unlike standing mid-center in a three-ring circus. From the moment I arrived, an invited guest to Studio One at CBS in New York, I was caught up in the excitement and spirit of the show's regulars and guest stars.

I selected a comfortable chair along the wall from which I could see all the action and for a radio show there's plenty of it. Maestro Johnny Parker twisted to the band's tune-up harmony while he huskily explained: "I lost my voice cheering for the New York Mets yesterday." COMBINATION OFFEI? 5 pc. Warren's got an education. And since the acting business is sometimes kind of shaky for a guy with a family to support, he's got a side line.

He's a school teacher, got a secondary credential and all that He can coach a football team, too. Warren was a darn good quarterback at little Pepper-dine college right in Los Angeles a few years back. He wasn't making out too hot in this acting dodge up until last winter when he got a part in the "Empire" TV. series on NBC with Richard Egan. Warren played a character called "Chuck Davis" and everybody liked him so much they wrote him into the series.

Now he can sit back and count his residuals during summer reruns. Warren, who is really very sharp and figures out just about everything, says: "This Chuck Davis is kind of a goof-ball character. He's good at things but he's a loser. He could ride a wild bronc successfully, then get on his own horse and fall off because he forgot to tighten the cinch." Warren likes acting but what he really wanted to be was a jockey. He gave up the idea on account of he grew to be 6 feet 3 inches tall and tipped the scale at 190 poundswithout a saddle or any other riding gear.

But he loved horses anyway and he got a job in the mm Arthur Godfrey asked the Redhead. "Tammy Grimes is wonderful. I don't know what the critics said about the show and I don't care I'm going to see it again." Damita Jo mentions the new craze in night clubs spiritual singing. Hayes and Parker, know all about it because they'd spent an evening "singing and banging on tamborines" thoughtfully provided by the management. Nipsy commented on the "angelic" attire of the waitresses: "little more than wings and a halo." "Must get pretty noisy," Godfrey observes.

"It's not the place to go if you want to talk," agrees Parker, speaking from his perch in front of the band. All drank tea, coffee, smoked, or moved about.

Before I could say "Ar-tha," Godfrey bounded into the studio, clasped my hand in a welcome, and hopped on the low platform where he sits behind a desk flanked by guests ensconced in directorlike chairs. Sipping tea poured from a white porcelain pot placed near his left elbow, he runs thru a song "Dear Hearts and Gentle People" with guest vocalist Damita Jo and listens to the playback. Arthur takes off his suit coat, puts on big gray earphones, and nods to the engineer. We hear the downbeat, the familiar theme and it's showtime another hour of "keyed up" conversation, humor, and song begins. "Has anyone seen the play, 'Rattle of a Simple Man'?" "13)88 respondence course in veterinary medicine I was taking from Utah State university.

Warren was a heller when he went to Montebello High school. He hardly ever cracked a book. One of his teachers used to tell him he should go to a trade school.

"I don't know exactly what happened," Warren says, "but suddenly I began studying. I was a 'D' student in high school but I had an 'A' average in college. I'm the only gay in Pepperdine history to go there on a football scholarship and major in speech arts drama." Warren's real name is Van-derSchuit and he had no trouble figuring out how to shorten that to fit on a theater marquee. UP! GUARANTEED 10.000 MILES OR I YEAR 6 MONTHS TO PAY. TERMS!
