Novak ran for alderman of the 35th ward in 1947 and lost a close runoff contest to his Democrat opponent, Walter Orlikowski. "I've helped the Republican party in the precincts since 1929," Novak says.

O. P. committee withdrew its sponsorship. Republicans couldn't fire him.

Miller's candidate against Novak is Atty Robert S. Diehl, 2011 N. Laporte former attorney in the state insurance department. He now practices law with Lawrence A. Ber-man, former chief attorney in that department.

The Republicans controled the state senate in the 1961 session by a 31 to 27 margin. This year, only odd numbered districts will elect senators: In 1964, even numbered districts will have contests.
