rather in the ability of men and promptly gave him 8 million dollars for "King of Kings." "We needed no stars for that one; the names have been familiar for more than 2000 years." "Fall of the Roman Empire" was being filmed in Spain and Italy when we talked, and "55 Days" had opened successfully in London and Paris. "One agency bought 50,000 pounds worth of tickets before the premiere," Bronston said. "The United States opening was at the end of May, and I expect to have expenses back by Labor day. J. Arthur Rank put down 3,000 pounds sterling for it and has given me 1,000 pounds for my next show." hear puivex "DOG OF THE WEEK Don McNeill Breakfast Club ABC Thurs Miracle Cushion Holds False Teeth Eases Sore Gums Tight 5 SUPER-MOISTURIZE SUN-DRIED "SUMMER SKIN" WITH DERMASSAGE'SKIN CREAM Medicated moisture actually fortifies dry, cracked, itching skin, relieves that skin-like-sand feeling.

Now he's become the world's most important independent producer with a unique setup in Spain that I visited on a recent trip abroad. One of the busiest men in the industry today, he has no time for regrets about the past, says: "I took my beatings in Hollywood, but every one pays off now. It taught me how to behave and I'm very grateful for the experience. There's no enjoyment when you read in the paper of somebody's failure; I know that more than anybody else." "The system hasn't changed in 40 years," he says. "It's completely obsolete and it's nobody's fault.

Producers couldn't grow with the times because the hands of major studios were tied. The split came thru government interference; it was too late to change and furthermore, being tied up, the majors couldn't afford to make pictures. They had tremendous overheads, were tied into the system and had no way of paying back capital." Often compared to C. B. DeMille, Bronston has taken on obligations beyond those of any other independent producer a total of over 40 million dollars.

He has headquarters in Madrid and has a 250-acre site at Las Matas that I visited. Sets for "55 Days At Peking" and "The Fall of the Roman Empire" were built there. Eleven major bankers of the world travel to Spain regularly to confer with him. "I consider it a compliment that they come to me," Bronston says. "A film must stand on its own feet.

We don't always get medals from critics. My aim is to place history on the screen thru entertainment." Of critics who sometimes complain of historic distortion, he says: "Sometimes I have to take liberties with history to make my point. I don't read about a subject in the Britannica in order to make a movie and I'm sure moviegoers don't have time to do these things. I make family films, pictures to which children can be taken by their teachers. I try to keep bloodshed as low as possible, and as a rule don't run into censor trouble because I watch to see that my films do not shock young children." Pierre du Pont put up 5 million dollars for Bronston's first independent film, "John Paul Jones." It was not a success and Bronston had to confess he'd lost all their money for the present.

Du Pont told him they didn't invest in individual projects but Snusr brand Denture Cushions are a triumph of science, a sensational new ever soft plastic re-Hninjc that frets rid of the annoyance and fear of loose, badly fit-tint? false teeth.
