IT IS AN EVEN BREAK BETWEEN TWO TOWNSHIPS County Superintendent Potts finish ed grading the papers of the applicants for a common school diploma In this county this afternoon and is well pleased with the showing made. The results of the examination were sent out to some of pupils Wednesday erenlng and the others will follow this evening.

This was the second examination for the year and Just one more than a hundred applied. Af these marked success was attained by the applicants of Roanoke and War len. In the latter corporation there were eighteen applicants and fulled; in the former all sixteen se cured a diploma. Roanoke Is again the banner school of the county In this respect as Miss Margaret Hackett of that school attained an average scholarship on the last examination of 97 per cent thus rlaclng her easily beyond all her com petitors. This is one of the best grades ever made on an eighth grade examination and the young ladv and ner teacners must ne commended for their work.

The honor fell to Roan oke last year. Besides capturing the first honor Roanoke Is tied with a Huntington student for the second honor with an average scholarship of 95. These are Miss Mabel McNamara of Roanoke, find Mary Terhune, daughter of Rev. and Mrs. Terhune of this city.

The case of the state vs. Freel and Young for heavy hauling on the Lan caster road was, by agreement of the attorneys, continued until Tuesday morning at 9 o'clock. Mr. and Mrs. Peter Conrad have re turned from several days visit with friends and relatives in Bluffton.

While there, Mr. Conrad was taken sick and was quite ill for some time. A bankrupt stock arrived in this city late this afternoon and was placed in the Van Antwerp store room, wnere it win be sold at auction, beginning Saturday. The stock consists of general merchandise, and is in the bands of William H. Krleg.
