Possibilities of immense damage yet by black rust were acknowledged, but only in case of a decided change as to prevailing moisture and temperature. Meanwhile wheat bears contended that proapecta point to competition among exporters to dispose of new crops rather than to Indicate forced buying on the part of consumers.

In this connection ft was pointed out thst although supplies afloat for Europe showed a falling off today trans Atlantic buying continued to be apparently of a hand to mouth character. CORK MARKET IIPPOHTED. Leading Ball laterest Cornea 1e Aid After Early Preaaare. (Copyright. 1027 CHICAGO.

July IS. The wheat market was lower and the corn market firm to higher most of the time today, due largely to operations, of local apreaders who hail bought wheat againat corn they had aold. and were undoing these spreads. Better weather for the growing crop also waa a factor. The market had a further setback in late trade on liquidation and stop loss selling based on the continued good reports from the spring wheat area.

Gool demand developed for wheat round for September. Thla waa partly against indemnities but thera also waa a quiet absorption of offerings slightly above that level by houses believed to be'acting for eastern longs. Weather over the week end both In Canada and the northwest waa Ideal for the spring wheat crop, while It kept black rust In check. Crop conditions are ao perfect in fact that some locals ate buying In the belief that there must be a change for the worse. Liverpool closed Tic to 1 He, higher, due to black rust reports from North America.

The seaboard reported little activity, but premiums for red wheat at I'hilarietnnta were 2c higher and giuC No. 1 hard wa up V.c to 11c more than Chicago September. Italian crop was officially estimated at 214 400,000 bushels, compared with" 220.000,000 last year. This Is the fifth European country to report smaller crop than a jrar ugo. Corn was higher early but met gome commission house pressure on the bulge, which caused a moderate reaction.

Spreaders caused the early advance with their buying and when commission housea were on the selling side of September above 11.03 support developed from the leading bull interest. All of the amateur crop experts were out In the country over Sunday and came back as tonished at the remarkable improvement in the corn crop as a result of high temperatures and timely rain. Shipping sales dropped off. Oata were quiet and most early trade consisted of buying July and sewing aeierren iuiurr, rup uv wa mnn fnvnrihl Provisions were oulet and strong with hogs. At midday lard wna 5c higher.

1914 Same time. 1910....... The hog situation la still in an unsettled and uncertain condition. Erratic trading can not be attributed entirely to the rule of supply and demand, but in part to the dis position 01 buyers ana to erratic Judgment in estimating the weight or quality of the offerings. Including 1,700 layovers, about 5,500 hos were in the market at the beginning of this week, about as many aa at the close of last week, but the demand from outside sources Monday waa decidedly larger and this seemed to have a favorable effect on the feelings of other buyers, resulting in an uneven upturn in prices, practically covering the loss on Saturady.

Heaviest hogs were quoted down to $8.75 and the. lighter kinds sold up to $10.65. giving a spread the same on Friday and 25c higher than extreme sales on Saturday. One local packer estimated a general advance of 25c and one large outside buyer quoted the market 10c to 25c higher. Other Individual estimates quoted sales steady to 50c higher ana tnis snows clearly the unsettled conditions.

Hoga that some buyers reararaea as tne "Deat in the yards were graded by other buyers as 'only ordinary." This is a sample of ine aiiDies oiierea. Apparently hogs averaging less than 225 pounds down sold at $10.15 up. rarely higher than $10.50 and comparatively few of th droves heavier than 225 pounds sold higher man iu.uu. Kecently most of the offerings weighed less than 260 pounds ana sales of such kinds Mon ty usually were in a range of $9.25 to $10.50. Pigs weighing 140 nounds down are salable at $9.25 down and 5.uu practically la the top price mr sow.

In extreme cases the loss Is 25c and by degrees dffrn to little or nothing on the best heavy and yearling steers and best light heifers. Other steers and other heifers, together with cows of all kinds, are regarded 15c to 25c lower with the emphasis on the 25c. Cattle of the grassy order are the hardest to sell and buyers seem anxious for tho best cattle at prevailing prices. One steer weighing 1.100 pounds brought, the top price paid today, $12.50. and a load of yearlings in the 1,000 pound class sold at $12.35.

Two other loads of 1.000 pound killers sold at $11.25, and a load of plainer 1.100 pound steers at $11.00. Two loads of killing steers averaging around 950 pounds brought $10.00 and throwouts averaging: 900 pounds at $8.00. Other small droves of steers weighing 1.000 and 1.150 pounds sold respectively at $9.50 and $10.00., and a drove of 850 pound yearlinsrs brought $12.00. Best light heifers are still quoted around $11.00 but comparatively few are coming In now qualified to sell higher than $10.00 and common heifers sell down to $8.00. Cows qualified to sell higher than $8.50 seem to be disappearing, and other beef cows, according and finish, sell largely at $6.50 Canners and cutters are quoted at $4.25 to $5.23.

Bulls are required to be top kinds to bring $7.50 and fair kinds sell down to $6.00. Only 500 calves were received and prices are unchanged from the close of. last week. Strictly best veals sold at $14.00. with good kinds $13.50 and mixed droves at $13 00.

lst medium calves are quotable at $11.00. Total receipts of cattle at seven leading western markets Monday 7 a. 90th meridian time. Snnday. July 17.

Members of the ttate board of commissioners Mondaly prepared for the hearinjr to bo held Tuesday, when the board will consider the task presented by the new Lind lev Shake Johnson farm tax relief bill. Representatives of the Indiana Farm Bureau Federation, who supported the measure, are to attend the hearinjr and present igrurea as to.

the reductions that (should bo made in farm values. Under the new law the board Is required this year t6 make reductions in real estate tax valuations in different taxins: units wherever It Is found that the values In the unit are lower than the sjeneral level of the state. Tho law, how ever, provides for no increase where the values are found to be leas than the general level. It is expected that the board will make a reduction, but whether the reduction will be state wide or will be variable to suit the conditions in the various localities, was a question still undecided by the board Monday. The board also had to consider the fact that the reductions might have a bad effect on the farm loans, which may be sought to be renewed in some Instances.
