I will say no more about him, expecting that you will have a visit from him shortly. We scarcely ever are compelled to head a chapter of accidents, yet we have had a warning to bays a few days ago in relation to bathing. A small boy, by the name of Levi Keener, in company with several colored boys, were bathing in a creek in the vicinity of the town, when this boy, venturing out beyond his depth, was drowned. The companions of the boy were near but could render no help to the drowning lad, and life was too far extinguished when he was placed in the physicians hands to rccuscitate him. This is another warning to young bathers.

The influenza is now prevalent in our town, though no deaths have yet occurred from it. Several are, however, dangerously ill from its effects. Harvesting has not fairly commenced with our farmers yet, though a few days will see them at work we hope. The crops will not be much more than half full this year, owing to the season. Fruit is in great abundance in the neighborhood, which will, we suppose, almost satis EAA.TTMORE LOCK HOSHTAL NORTH FREDERICK STREET, (2 doors from Baltimore Attendance fram 7 in the morning till 10 at night, DR.

HANCK, curanf ctf CtuuHos aud Pratt rtntet. BALTIMORE. FRIDAY JULY 88, 1H43. Correspondence of the Baltimore Sun. Washington, July 27, 1S43 Is it not astonishing that, although people cry oh, the oppression of the times," just as though they were on the point of being need of quel-quechose, a manger ou a boire, we hear con- stantly of improvements, unprecedented heretofore, in all parts of the country? Here, in this Metropolis, that cry has been uttered so often that one would think that people would discard it and adopt another.

Whilst this cry is uttered by many, the city is being improved to a degree which truly surprises even the utterers. Kevrr in One season lias so many buildings been commenced as during the present. Does this argue an oppression of times? The "Tyler grippe" is becoming more preva-lent Thanks that its symptoms are of a mild character generally It is announced that the Hon. I understand that he is another example to the youth of this country, being a self-made man.

He is quite fanii liar with several languages, and is an excellent classical scholar, attainments the result of per severance and application, even whilst engaged hi extensive commerce. His political know-ledire is better known than mv pen can describe. On Tuesday next, the Independent Greys of Georgetown will make a pleasure excursion Wn the Potomac. It will doubtless be a fine affair, and reflect much credit upon that corps. The Tuesdav following, (the Sth of August) -our most brilliant and efficient company have determined to e-ive their annual excursion, which they announce to be the last excursion of the kind of the season.

From the high reputa tion of the National Blues as gentlemen and soldiers, and as retters up of affairs of this na- ture, 1 teel wrrrantea in saying wai n. mu cell all previous excursions which have passed down the Potomac. Besides, if the weather proves favorable, the moon will shed its mellow influence to gladden and animate the feelings of those who may favor them with their company. Kverv Blue is a beau, accomplished and bold and worthy of all esteem, and the ladies need not fear, whilst under their charge, either insult or inattention. I speak knowingly, and what I have stated the ladies can bear testimony to.

I therefore wish "the National Blues'' a pros perous excursion, and take the opportunity of saying to those who have been unamc to pass down the Potomac this season, and who have luxuriated in the delightful zephyrs which revel durin-r the brilliant August evenings on the majestic Potomac, to prepare themselves for this, the last and most magnificent excursion of the season. i The Navy Yard will shortly present quite an animated appearance, a.s 1 understand an order has been given to take in 100 hands immediately. Indian. Visit Drowning Influenza, SfC -Jtfessrs. Editors: We have again been entertained by another rare visiter "in these parts," in the subject of a converted Indian. In com-. pany with the Rev.

Mr. Douglas, of Philadelphia, he is travelling about the country chiefly to raise- a sum of money, sufficient to educate, and send him to his native tribe as a missionary, In the course oi the evening lie notified, our townsmen that he would give an account of his conversion, by which means a large audience had early assembled. The account he gave of himself was very interesting, which, combined ith the native simplicity of his language, and the well-adapted and graceful delivery, rendered it a truly interesting scene. Never have I seen the Indian feeling more fully expressed his heart was so full and affected whilst relating the almost supernatural manner of his conversion the deep and darkened character of many of those who had ruined his people, yet his willingness to forgive all if only they would prepare him to preach salvation to his native tribe, in whose welfare he had such a heartfelt interest. From his account, I learned that he was a native of Florida, and the son of a cliief of one of the numerous tribes of Seminole In dians, living in the, neighborhood formerly of St.

Augustine. At the age of ten, in company with his father, he left' his home, on a visit to St. Augustine for the purpose of selling furs to the inhabitants of that town. Previous to this time, however, he had imagined that lie had heard the voice of his Great Spirit, warning him to repent. Haunted by this opinion lie was constantly uneasy, expecting to see visibly the Great Spirit who had spoken to him.

He was then anxious and had spoken to the old chief, his father, but he did not heed him, and he, un der these solemn impressions, visited St. Augustine. Whilst there, his lather had succeeded so well with the whites that he determined to have a sort of carousal, and accordingly he and Philip, an Indian chief, drank very freely of rum. iiecoimng highly excited, they fought before seperation, which, according to the representation, was bloody and hard, and which, unfortunately, eventuated in the death of his father. King Philip did not take any care of this Indian, nor return to his tribe through fear, but secretly escaped.

In the meantime he had wandered about without friend or home after his father's death, which was adectingly related, trusting to find a friend in some of the whites. He, however, fell under the notice of a sailor, who taking him with himself, shipped from the port unknown to his friends. At this time he wis but ten years of age a benighted heathen without friends or home within histrackand wholly dependent on his friend's aid. He had been fir a space of time a sailor. During one of his voyages he was brought to feel the sinfulness of his condition and he then do termined to seec the favor of his Great Spirit.

He prayed and entreated in secret, the blessings of his Spirit, which, erelong, he found to the comfort of his soul. "And oh!" said he, "had I but the power to convey to you an idea of my joy and happiness, you wmdd scarcely believe writ Altr hia Him. 1 ne leu accidentally under the notice of the Marine society, of Philadelphia, to which he attached, himself. Although it may be consid ered unnecessary for me to "add another proof to the justly deserved celebrity ot your invaluable prepara tion of Sarsaparilla, yet, for the benefit of my fellow men, I feel bound to proclaim the fact. From being a most helpless cripple, with a disease of the lower ex-ti entities, which spread over the legs, instep and feet, distressing me so much as to render life almost miserable, I am now quite recovered, and entirely by the use of your Sarsaparilla.

For two years I was unable to wear a shoe, and the right foot and ancle were very much swollen, which at tunes discnargen water and pus freely, accompanied with violent itching, and burning sensations, so as to deprive me of all rest. I gave up in despair, and supposed amputation would be necessary, but hearing of great cures made by your Sarsaparilla, I resolved to make another effort to regain my health, and now, under the blessing of a kind Providence, I am thankful to say I am well With feelings of gratitude to yeu, and thankfulness to the giver of all good, for thus blessingthe means, I am your friend, James McConnell, No. 489 Greenwich st. New York, April 30th, 1843. This is to certify, That James McConnell called on me and exhibited his foot and leg, and stated that by the use of.

eleven bottles of Sand's Sarsaparilla, a perfect cure had been effected. With feelings of the wannest gratitude to Messrs. Sands in thus being instrumental, under Divine Providence, in curing and restoring him to health, requests me to give this certificate. Robert Jones.
