The Religion of Thrift The people of Indianapolis have nobly done their part in assisting the Government to carry her share of responsibility in the winning of the great war. This has been evidenced by the manner in which all five of the Liberty Loans have been over subscribed. Thousands of our people who were never "bond holders" before, now take great pride in the savings which they have made through these Government investments. Now that the pressure of war is off, the sure tendency will be to cease saving and investing, and consume our earnings on living and pleasure. The habit of thrift of saving a part of our weekly earnings should be continued with great assiduity.

What is thrift? It is good management of the business of living. Thrift is wise spending of time and money getting the most out of one's time, getting the most out of one's strength, getting the most out of one's earnings. Thrift means thought, so that whims may not run away with the things we really need. Thrift means forethought, so that large ends may not be sacrificed to the moment's pleasure. Thrift means sense of value so that every minute and every penny may enter at its proper rating in the permanent account of life and fortune.

Thrift is command of opportunity, command of one's own resolution, command of the present and future. The man who has mastered thrift is master of his fate. The people who have acquired thrift hold the reins of world supremacy. The Church Federation of Indianapolis THOS. C.

The Government is deeply interested in continuing the method of investments known as Thrift and War Savings Stamps, now that the war is over, and all our people are encouraged to devote a share of their earnings to these concerns. The week beginning June 22nd has been set apart by the Government of the United States as "Thrift Week." Indiana now leads in the Seventh Federal District in per capita sales of War Savings Stamps. We all should take pride in keeping Indiana at the very forefront in every worthy enterprise, whether of Government or local interest. The pastors of Indianapolis have been requested to speak favorably of this national movement in their pulpits tomorrow. "To set one's house in order" not only refers to the saving of one's soul, but also to the saving of a share of one's earnings to meet the needs of the closing days of one's earthly life.

The very heart of genuine religion is the care of one's family. The Government provides a safe and convenient way for every man and every child in Indianapolis to become in time fully independent, and a self supporting citizen. The Church Federation of Indianapolis is always interested in every movement which has to do with the safety, the prosperity and the happiness of all our people. For this reason it gives its unqualified endorsement to this worthy movement, and expresses the hope that all churches may take notice of this important matter tomorrow and encourage all to the habits of sacrifice and thrift.
