THE WINNIPEG TRIBUNE PAGE 3 "Lively" Session Is Predicted For Ontario Government's Fate Hangs On Liberal Stand (By Thi Canadian Pru TORONTO. Feb.

19 The first session of Ontario' 2Ut legislature open Tuesday and some political quarters predict it may go as one of the liveliest since Me stormy days when Mitchell F. Hepburn was premier. The political significance of the session will be unprecedented in Ontario at least, end for three reasons: 1. Premier George Drew's Pro gressive Conservative government goes into its first session since its e'ection last August, in the min orty, commanding at most only 35 votes in the 90 memoer House 2. The session marks the "big" test in Ontario for the C.C.F.

party which under the leadership of young, law schooled E. B. Jolliffe, forms the official opposition for the first time with 34 seats. 3. Fate of the government depends on the attitude of the 15 Liberal members under former Tremier Harry C.

Nixon, who hold balance of power. While Mr. Nixon has made no statement, the Liberal attitude vps defined at a recent caucus hich decided to support any legislation the Liberals deemed to be in the best interests of the province. However, Premier Drew says he will not cut his political cloth to fit any Liberal pattern. "I believe our program of legislation meets with the confidence and trust of the people," he said last Saturday in an address at London, Ont.

"Regardless of any political expediency, we intend to present the legislation we intended and leave it to the legislature to deelde. We will not condition our legislation upon expediency but will stand or fall on the program we have mapped out." Mr. Jolliffe, whose C.C.F. party ebcted only one member in 1934, is reticent about his party's posi on. "Not having seen any of the fivernment's proposed legislation it is not possible for me to make anv comment at this time as to hat kind of a reception it will get," he said this week in an inter view.

QUALIFY FOR GOLD FISH CLUB: This crew of the Canadian Bomber Group's Bluenose squadron qualified for membership in the Gold Fish club when they had to "ditch their kite" In the North Sea after It had been severely damaged in a raid over Leipzig.

The boys are all N.C.O.s and they are shown above back at their home base, making their report to the intelligence officers. Sixth from the left in the picture and sitting down is Sgt. Michael Habiluk, 22, of 1006 Manitoba Winnipeg, who is the mid upper gunner in the crew. Their bomber was damaged by heavy flak which severed the fuel pipes and caused a serious petrol leak. "I heard the dull thud below my feet and felt the kite bounce as the flak hit us," Sgt.

Habiluk said. "Soon after 1 saw petrol streaming from the port wing tanks." Petrol began to stream out of the rear end. Then one of the engines stnpied and the aficraft began to lose height. They were short of gas and a vote was taken whether they would bail out over enemy territory or wait till they had to ditch the bomber over the North Sea. They had decided to hang on till their fuel gave out, when a second engine packed up.

An S.O.S. call was sent out and after three attempts, the pilot finally landed the aircraft in the water without injuring any of the crew. They clambered out of the escape hatch to their dinghy. An hour later a corvette which had picked up their S.O.S. came to their rescue.

They were taken to a coastal fighter aerodrome and finally arrived back at their home base three days after they had set out to bomb Leipzig. (R.C.A.F. Photo.) Reconnaissance Units: GOLD, Arthur, Toornto. DIED OF WOUNDS Royal Canadian Artillery: BENNETT. William Montgomery, iangton, Ont.
