Ihe stewards admitted that the horse was scratched due to a report from the chief veterinarian, Dr. F. M. Keller, in charge of the receiv ing barn, but refused to comment on the situation, here today.

Groom Refuses To Comply It was reported that the guard assigned to Flying Raid warned the groom that it was against the rules of the racing commission to admin- ster anything to a horse after the prerace test was given and when the groom refused to comply. Lieut. Robert E. Bradley, head of the spe cial police, was called. The filly was scratched before betting opened.

This was the first violation of rules regulating the receiving barn reported since the inceplion of the mandatory barn at the start of the Laurel meeting 011 October 2. 18 Longshots were featured here at the Washington boulevard course today and the Prospect Hill Purse, sixth and best see. was no exception when S. A. Weidman's Late Time won by a lii ad at $42.40 for $2. The judges called on the camera before posting the order of finish end shown second in the picture vas Brown Hotel Stable's Buzz-around, which held a length advantage over Henry Horkheimer's Tony's Find.

The form players were justified in their complaint of a form reversal as Late Time was only fifth in her previous race, beaten a total 16 lengths by Buzzaround. which hold on gamely to win at a mile and "70 yards. Cusimano Rides Late Time Buzzaround got to the front in today's feature, but was unable to hold bis advantage when Late Time drove up on the outside and com plcted the s.ix furlongs in 1.12 1-5. There was a change in riders on Late Time from Bobby Bauer to Ccorge Cusimano. Who put up an extremely ambitious ride in driving ictory.

delightful racing weather vas enjoyed, the favorite players smong the 10.000 fans were having little success in their battle against thciron man when only one favor-lie got home. The betting on the eight races went to $782,384. Favorite in the Prospect Hill Purse was Crispin Oglebay's Upper Level, which got to the front in the backstretch, but tired badly in the htretch and finished only fourth in the nine-horse field. Closes Cround In Stretch Late Time, a daughter of War Hero and Quiet Time, was second ia the backstretch, dropped back in the run into the far turn and then closed ground in the stretch. She appeared ready to pull away from Buzzaround upon reaching the wire.

Only a crystal gazer could come v.p with a winner like J. E. Hughes' Doe Head, which paid the box-ear odds of $162.30 to win the fourth race at the expense of a capacity iield of maidens. It was the longest win price of the meeting and, on paper, there as no way the form players could give Doe Head even as much as a smell of the lion's share of the T-urse. Also.

Doe Head's jockey, Richard Lang, had not won a race since the opening, 16 racing days back. Doe Head Wins By Length Although Doe Head had finished eighth, beaten 21 lengths in her previous race over the track, she scored today with a length margin and turned a mile and seventy ards in 1.47 3-5. Nearest to the longshot at the wire was George Hursts Astify. while Kock Hill Farm's Vannozza, a first-time starter, was third. The form players went down with J.

L. Friedman's Snain's Armada, a paddock tip, which got to the front at the head of the stretch and then faltered badly in the last eighth of a mile. Doe Head, which had failed to in eight Marts on Maryland halfers," broke fast in today's rate, went right to the front with R. Lang hustling around Ihc first turn and then lasted to win over fi-ld of vrfv tired opponents. The time turned in by the daughter of Head Play was six full seconds iower than the track record for the distance.

Stewards Announce 2 Rulings Before the fourth race the stewards announced two rulings. Jockey J. Martin, who rode Butler. which was disqualified after winning the last race yesterday, has necn suspended for the remainder the meeting and steeplechase P. der J.

Wyhe was fined $25 for -obedience at the barrier in a rcnt 'chase. The stewards have been most active recent races. They disqualified Butler out of the final race yesterday and rlso changed the result of today's fifth race. Jouctt Shouse's East vfon the event for $10,000 platers by a length and a half, but was disqualified and placed second in back of E. D- Talbert's Victim, while third money went to J.

Stuart's The Sheriff. Stewards Change Result Apprentice Fred Pannell. rider ef Victim, complained to the ofli that his mount was bothered by East, under Sammy Walters, in the stretch run and therefore, was unable to give his best late speed. The stewards changed the result after listening to the reinsmen's story. Both Butler and East were favorites with the Laurel fans and East ent off at only 6-to-5 odds.

The very lucky backers of Vic tim collected at the rate of $11.60 for $2. The 6-year-old son of Mate and Scuttle is a full brother to A. C. Bostwick's Scurry Girl, win ner of the third race, a two-mile steeplechase. Victim went the six furlongs in 1.12 4-5.
